Any experience with this? I'm talking about logging in to an Aussie account in the US. Thanks.

As I understand it, be it UK or AUS Betfair, your IP address will be recognised as from the USA and blocked. However I don't see an issue with you remotely accessing your desktop from the USA, if you can be assured it's connected and running 24/7 while you're away? That way the bets will still be placed from a computer with an AUS IP address.

It's probably still illegal as the intent is still there.

I have not used it overseas but can say that Amazon spot instances are perfect for this, you can start and shut them down from the web and can remote desktop them to run, there is some lag so no good if you need them at lightening speeds.

Hola browser add-on would also likely work.

You run the risk of fines but it will depend on the state you are in though as different laws in different states.

I would suggest not to do it.

This is the wording in the USA statute:

GAMBLING-

(1) PROHIBITION- Subject to subsection (e), it shall be unlawful for a person knowingly to use the Internet or any other interactive computer service--

(A) to place, receive, or otherwise make a bet or wager with any person; or

(B) to send, receive, or invite information assisting in the placing of a bet or wager with the intent to send, receive, or invite information assisting in the placing of a bet or wager.

(2) PENALTIES- A person who violates paragraph (1) shall be--

(A) fined in an amount that is not more than the greater of--

(i) three times the greater of--

(I) the total amount that the person is found to have wagered through the Internet or other interactive computer service; or

(II) the total amount that the person is found to have received as a result of such wagering; or

(ii) $500;

(B) imprisoned not more than 3 months; or

(C) both.

However, I'd still argue that remotely accessing your bot located in AUS, from the USA, to see how it was going, wouldn't be an offence IMHO?

The current fiasco in Bali is a prime example of flaunting another country's laws. Fines are not a problem. Incarceration is a major problem. Fallout is that you are barred from the USA forever and possibly (I can remember reading an article about big brother's influence) get on a watch list on some US friendly allies.

Its just not worth the risk (however small it is).

you just get a VPN - i am using purevpn and go for your life.
unless you are replaying the races real load in a bar or something the chances of a problem would be 100mill to 1.

more risk that the plane will come down.

i go to thailand 1 month per year and do it that way.

cheers

Just because I contributed a possible answer to your question doesn't mean we are sweet.

It's probably still illegal as the intent is still there. If that is true then you shouldn't even email your selection to your friend in OZ to place a bet for you, as it's still over the net.

Regards to VPN just read on an other forum that a punter in Germany (he is from OZ) tried to connect directly to Luxbet and couldn't, but could by using a VPN, except his IP address was still recognised as being from a prohibited country when he tried to log in and was refused.

Don't know about the bookies or Betfair but Luxbet definitely picked him up.
