Spring Tipping Comp 2015

[Sportz]

NATIONAL PUNTING LEAGUE (Spring 2015)

Here's how the comp works. We will all be tipping against each other for 10 weeks from this Saturday, August 22, through to October 24. Then at the completion of those 10 weeks, the top 8 tipsters will go head to head in a final series during Melbourne Cup week.



Please read the rules carefully. A couple of changes this time....

RULES

1. Of the 10 Saturdays during the preliminary rounds, you must tip on at least 7 of them.

You are allowed to miss 3 weeks. No more. People will have to start tipping by September 12 or they miss out.

2. You can post anywhere between 5 and 15 selections each week.

3. You can bet anywhere between $100 and $250 each week.

The leading tipsters are judged on % profit, not the total amount of profit. So betting more won't give you a better chance. But you can change the amount you bet from week to week depending on your confidence.

4. You are allowed to make up to two "best bets" each week. These bets are either $50 win or $25 each way.

This is something new. Instead of being limited to betting the same amount on every selection, you can now bet double the amount on one or two best bets.

Please note, you do not HAVE to pick a best bet, but it is there if you want to use it. You can have either a $50 win bet or a $25 each way bet on one or two horses each week. It's up to you.

5. With your remaining selections, you can bet up to $25, either win only or win and place and you can use any of the following bet sizes...

6 . Races you can tip in:
You can tip at any Australian or New Zealand gallops meeting covered by UBET on Saturdays. Which is just about everything.



Calculating your $ return:
I will be using William Hill's Best Tote +5% to calculate the return on all races if available. If not available, I will be using UBET dividends.

IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ...

Tipping rules:

To make it easier for you, I'm leaving things close to the same as it has been during the preliminary rounds. You can still post anywhere between 5 and 15 tips. And the bet sizes are the same as we've been using all the way through too except that there are no longer any $50 best bets. The maximum amount you can bet in the finals is $25.

The person listed first in each matchup finished higher on the ladder, so they are given the "home ground advantage" of having 25% more to spend. The person listed first is allowed to bet between $125 and $250 while the person listed second gets to bet between $100 and $200. In each case, betting the maximum amount won't actually give you a better chance. Because I will simply be converting your total winnings back to a score out of 125 or 100 as the case may be.

The tipster in each matchup who posts second is only allowed to include one of the horses tipped by the person who posted first. Just to clarify this... The person who's listed 2nd doesn't have to wait around and post their tips 2nd. They can get in and post their tips first if they want to. But whoever it is that ends up posting 2nd in each matchup, they can only tip one of the horses that the 1st tipster has picked.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the match will be awarded to the tipster listed 2nd.

Track bias seems to have emerged recently as a new issue for us to contend with. Was it always there but flying under the radar and not spotted.?

It's a bit like many things of the new era such as sinkholes, bull sharks and cockroaches.

When I started teaching at Junee in 1971 I don't remember seeing a cockroach in my hometown of Newcastle. When I came back they were, all of a sudden, there.

Similarly, there was no such thing as a bull shark. There were white pointers, tigers and makos but no bulls (no Bull).

Suburban grass castles disappearing down sinkholes was rare. Now they are all part of the modern lexicon.

Getting back to my comparison of track bias, one of my favourites, Foxseal, always came from a mile back and ran close to the placings. No questions of bias stopping him.
