not bad shaun, hard to select only 4 races[using wizard points/consensus panels] and do well if backing top 3 for a profit,i bet the same way myself [using my own ratings] but normally have a couple more races until profit percentage is reached..do you only use the wizard points??

Yes...thats all i use....i did do my own rateings at one time but i found that i could get better results useing some one elses.....i limit my races by only looking at welters and higher and those were the 4 races that qualifyed in all 5 states...those prices are not uncommon thats the second $60 winner i have had in about a month.

Hi Shuan,

Well done on Baycrest! Just wondering how you stake your three selection. The same amount on each, or do you Dutch them?

Cheers.

Yes, well done, Shaun. As a bit of a novice at all this can you define "Welter" for me? Thanks.

Shaun
14th August 2003, 03:23 PM
As for how i stake them i just put the same amount on each selection....that way when the big ones come in you are not disadvantaged by the dutch system...as long as it pays $3 or more you are in profit.....as for the class i don't have a class list in front of me but for city races it starts with restricted events (1 metropolitan win or 2 metro wins or maybe restricted to fillies or 2yo or 3yo)then im think it is class 6 races then comes welters then open races then quality then you have your group races i will only put my money on top grade races like welters, opens, quality, group races.....i never bet on 3yo races unless they are quality or up same with 2yo i never bet on fillies/mares only races.....by doing this i limit the amount of money i have at risk.....i think on average there are about 50 to 80 races on a given saturday....no one i don't care how good you are can make a profit trying to take them all on.....i have between 5 and 15 bets on saturday and about 1 to 5 on wednesday.....plenty of action....i use a bank percentage bet for example i bet 5% for 1 to 5 bets 10% for 6 to 10 bets and 15% for 11 and above bets.......i just devide this amout by the total number of selections for the day....on wednesday i had 12 selections for 3 wins for about a 500% profit.

speaking of classing of races.
how could the wyong cup prelude today possibly be a listed race at $30k total prizemoney.
nsw racing is getting like nz where even some of the hurdles are listed races.
its time they lifted their game.

ps. good luck with the longshots.
nice to see them posted.

Thanks for your answer to my question about what is a "Welter", Shaun. Might take me a little while to get my mind around it though!

I asked the question about 'transitional' about six months ago. Answer?

Found the answer at the supermarket on the back of a packet of soap: "This soap is made from 100% Transitional Horses only".

Would I lie to you?

The Transitional handicaps replace classes 5,6 and welter races in NSW. They are open to all horses. However the quality of them can vary quite markedly. IMO they contain horses that are either improving on the way to better grades or for horses over the hill in transit to oblivion. The variation probably comes from the number of horses in each race drawn from these two categories. ie if it is full of old plodders in winter it is weaker than young improvers in spring/autumn.

A Transitional race is a combination of Class 5, Class 6, and Open Hcps put together, i give it a weight rating of 57, compared to 60 for Open Hcps and 55 for Class 6 city races.

I've said it before, the Wizard couldn't pick their nose.

If you had backed their LAST 2 selections instead of their first three, you would have done better. Lost less that is.

The most expensive Racing paper with the least ability to rate horses. Computerized Mumbo Jumbo not worth a crumpet.

Bring back the Globe!

Well yesterday was not a good day....they are far from the worst paper.......the money i lost yesterday was only what i added to the bank after wednesdays winners i also pocketed twice that amout as profit.....and i know we can't say well if only this had happend.but did you see the price of "Crlton Spirit" they also gave me "Oscar Worrior" a few weeks ago...at $64 and then again the nextweek at $13.30 who else tiped that horse twice....i ride the good with the bad and belive me the good can be very good....overall i lost 8% of my bank yesterday after backing 30 selections who else can tell me how they did....you also have to remember winter raceing is not the best races around....can't wait for spring.

Have faith in your own ability to pick horses Shaun [your as good as the tipsters] and then concentrate on betting stratergy and staking. The NO loosing weeks [overall] plan.

To let you in on a little secret [hardly that secret], those Racing scribes do very nicely out of the Punt [at least some of them do], but do you really believe they are going to tell the world what Horses they back? Or that we live in a Democracy?

Some of [most] those picks you went to the effort of Posting [from the Wizard] are just plain nonsense!
Have a look at their form Stats. and you definately wouldn't have backed most of them.
Also consider their unders price due to the fact that thousands of punters will back them as Gospel.
Most of my winnings and I do get 'em [and a birthday] now and then, never come from Horses that would get into the first three of any Tipsters Poll. Tipsters might stumble and print ["bugger it!"] a big winner now and then, but not often enough to make following their "very short priced favorite if you back this Plan" worth while.

Cheers.
