2014 Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist (Ger) will take up stallion duties at Gestut Rottgen in Germany for the 2017 breeding season at a fee of €6,500
Following his Melbourne Cup win, Protectionist raced on unsuccessfully in Australia with Kris Lees before returning to the care of his original trainer, Andreas Wohlerearlier
Since went on to win three races including the Group I Grosser Preis von Berlin in August

First year at stud for Protectionist has been a success from what I've read. High fertility rate. Good book of mares including individual Group winners, dams of Group winners & half sisters to Group winners.

Good news. Protectionist is now officially a dad. Two fillies & one colt so far. More to come.

Some of Protectionist's first yearlings have recently been purchased at the Baden-Baden auction sales. And yes, some will be heading down-under.

2yo filly Milka became the first Black Type progeny for her sire Protectionist. Runner-up last month in the Listed Junioren-Preis in Germany.

Notice the stud fee for 2023 has not increased. Still €6,500. Winners produced over past 3 seasons:- 39% 42% 41%
