Autumn Tipping Comp 2019

Apologies for starting this so late!



NATIONAL PUNTING LEAGUE (Autumn 2019)

Here's how the comp works. We will all be tipping against each other for 5 weeks from this Saturday, March 2, through to March 30. Then at the completion of those 5 weeks, the top tipsters will go to a final series ending with the grand final on Saturday, April 20.

Please read the rules carefully.

RULES

1. Of the 5 Saturdays during the preliminary rounds, you must tip on at least 4 of them. People will have to start tipping by March 9th or they miss out.

2. You can post anywhere between 3 and 15 selections each week.

3. You can bet anywhere between $60 and $300 each week. The leading tipsters are judged on % profit, not the total amount of profit. So betting more won't give you a better chance. But you can change the amount you bet from week to week depending on your confidence.

4. On each selection, you can bet any multiple of $5 up to $30, either win only or each way.

5 . You can tip at any Australian or New Zealand gallops meeting on Saturdays.

Calculating your $ return:
I will be using Sportsbet TT+ to calculate the return on all races if available. If not available, I will be using UBET dividends.

So, if you want to tip on Moonee Valley, you can do it 2 ways. You can post all your tips for Fri night/Saturday in one post, OR you can post some tips for Fri night, then post some more on Saturday, as long as you don't go over the maximum 15 tips & $300.

Thanks again, Sportz. Another rendez vous with the cap catchers (as Bertie Bryant called tail enders like me). Maybe I need to take on a Melbourne winter although I believe they've changed a bit since my heyday. Aaah that I wish it was the 1970s again - good old winter champs like Yootha, Brandy Balloon, Tetrabine... I could go on. We 'knew ' these horses. Nowadays we have to evaluate the form of horses who haven't raced for 2 years and then only started over 4 miles in a field of 3 at Kempton Park.

Don't forget my name-sake, Piratebird. Used to lead by 50 lengths and lose by 20 at Rosehill but that was in the late 60's. I got him one day though when it was "his turn" at $33. I really think they let him win one that day.

Just a minor change to the betting rules used during the preliminary rounds. You can now post between 5 and 10 tips instead of 3-15 tips. The bet sizes remain the same as we've been using all the way through.

The person listed first in each matchup finished higher on the ladder, so they are given the "home ground advantage" of having 25% more to spend. The person listed first is allowed to bet between $125 and $250 while the person listed second gets to bet between $100 and $200. In each case, betting the maximum amount won't actually give you a better chance. Because I will simply be converting your total winnings back to a score out of 125 or 100 as the case may be.

The tipster in each matchup who posts second is only allowed to include one of the horses tipped by the person who posted first. Just to clarify this... The person who's listed 2nd doesn't have to post their tips 2nd. They can get in and post their tips first if they want to. But whoever it is that ends up posting 2nd in each matchup, they can only tip one of the horses that the 1st tipster has picked.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the match will be awarded to the tipster listed 2nd.
