Autumn Tipping Comp 2020

[Sportz]

NATIONAL PUNTING LEAGUE (Autumn 2020)

Here's how the comp works. We will all be tipping against each other for 8 weeks from this Saturday, Feb 8, through to Mar 28. Then at the completion of those 8 weeks, the top 4 tipsters will fight it out in a final series on Apr 4, Apr 11 and Apr 18.



Please read the rules carefully and there is a change to the rules highlighted in bold.

RULES

1. Of the 8 weeks during the preliminary rounds, you must tip on at least 6 of them. You are allowed to miss 2 weeks. No more. People will have to start tipping by Feb 22 or they miss out.

2. You can post anywhere between 3 and 15 selections each week.

3. You can bet anywhere between $60 and $300 each week. The leading tipsters are judged on % profit, not the total amount of profit. So betting more won't give you a better chance. But you can change the amount you bet from week to week depending on your confidence.

4. On each selection, you can bet only two different amounts, $20 or $40. You can bet either $20 win or $10 each-way OR you can bet $40 win or $20 each-way.

5. You can tip at any Australian or New Zealand TAB gallops meeting on Saturdays.


Calculating your $ return:

I will be using the closing tote and fixed odds prices on the Qld Tab and you will get whichever is the highest.

I took out three win selections today (Wild Planet, Quality Seeker & Shared Ambition) because I thought they were too short. They've all won very easily and one of them drifted to a more than reasonable price!

Fourths are a scourge. I had an encounter early in my punting life in a Newmarket Handicap (circa 1967. I still recall Bill Collins calling ' ...fourth Abebe flashing home.' I've never forgotten it.

Just a change to the number of bets used during the preliminary rounds. You can now post between 5 and 10 tips instead of 3-15 tips.

There's a change to the bet sizes for the finals. I apologise for changing them this year so that we only had 4 different bet sizes to work with. I thought it would make everything easier and reward people for just picking winners. But it tended to make things more difficult for me, so I assume it was the same for others.

So, for the finals, the bet sizes you can use are...

$20 ew
$40 win

The person listed first in each matchup finished higher on the ladder, so they are given the "home ground advantage" of having more to spend. The person listed first is allowed to bet between $150 and $300 while the person listed second gets to bet between $120 and $240. In each case, betting the maximum amount won't actually give you a better chance. Because I will simply be converting your total winnings back to a score out of 150 or 120 as the case may be.

The tipster in each matchup who posts second is only allowed to include one of the horses tipped by the person who posted first. Just to clarify this... The person who's listed 2nd doesn't have to post their tips 2nd. They can get in and post their tips first if they want to. But whoever it is that ends up posting 2nd in each matchup, they can only tip one of the horses that the 1st tipster has picked.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the match will be awarded to the tipster listed 2nd.
