Great weekend of racing. Hawkes dominated sydney racing. Some good runs for spring features were put in.

Santissima- half sister to fremason and continues to improve.

Ambulance- what a win. what a win. This bloke never looked likely and killed them in the stan fox. Looks like he can be the next good thing. A huge caufield guineas hope and the cox plate is not out of reach.

Hasna - a good honest run. sat wide much of the trip and kept plugging away. thousand guineas could be her type of race.

Lonhro - Boy this horse is good. he can run. The black flash blew them away in yet another slowly run sit and sprint sydney weight for age race. The race was ideal for him with nothing setting a genuine speed it was his race 1000 metres from home. Lonhro is very close to champion status. he is certainly the best horse in australia. The only query about lonhro is the cox plate. All questions will be answered one way or the other come october.

Grand armee - another good run and with a more genuine run race looks to be a real chance in whatever he runs in. A big cox plate chance as he runs close to the speed and can sustain a long run. caufield cup also looks a race he can win as he is looking a bit dour this campaign.

Defier - another good run from this gutsy galloper. terribly ridden by oliver allowing lonhro to be 2 - 3 lengths in front of him at the turn in a slow run race. Lonhro's sectionals are just as good as defiers and to beat him in a muddling run race he needs to be closer. He's still on traclk for the cox plate though his winning strike rate is becoming a concern as he hasn't taken that step up to champ status.

Bedouin - dissapointing run on the weekend.

Forum floozie- another giant run. ready to win soon.

Zabarra- this bloke pays some incredible divies for a horse with a 33% winning strike rate.

Fiery venture - frustrating run after beating grand armee, defier and private steer home last week. plenty more wins in store for him though.

casual pass- a horse not rated good enough to even run in the guineas or derby led all the way to win and win well.

Kusi- he's become a suck horse. like helenus. we are hoping they can reach the heights they previously have but looks like it wont happen. i'm off him.

Umrum - great run by the old fellow. carried a big weight to go down narrowly. a huge chance of winning his third toorak handicap.

Extolling virtue - a perth horse who won brilliantly on saturday in moderate company. despite a weakish sort of field won absolutely sensationally. Could be at big odds for the caufield guineas and would rate a place chance.

Mercury halo - very very smart perth galloper put in a great performance to win first up.

Noel callow - the hottest jock in town at the moment.

D. oliver - shocking ride on defier.

Hey umrum, a public holiday over there today and all you've got on are some very unattractive races at Geraldton, some few hours drive north of Perth.

One of the runs / wins of the weekend would have to be that of Distinctly Secret winning the $750,000 Kelt Capital Stakes at Hastings on Saturday.

Bolted in by 3.75len over Hail, Irish Rover Ben Sparta, Hello Dolly and Kaapeon.

Hopefully now Caulfield Cup bound.

I watched Lonrho run on the weekend and wow what a performance...after the race they interviewd his owner or could of been trainer? on sky channel and he said "well they have to call him a champion now" .
Well youd think so, i would have been calling him a champ runs back......

Champ? God almighty not yet mate. Lets see if he can win some champion races first.

Waiting to see him run in a truely run race to see if he can produce those sectionals after useing up a bit of puff first. There are some good runners who are just waiting to show him what a sustained run is.

Cheers.

calling lonhro a champion is like saying collingwood is a champion football team. they have lost two grand finals and so has he. The doncaster and the cox plate were his grand finals and he lost. but saying that he has an unbelievable sprint and a brilliant win strike rate. BUt as crash says he cannot sustain a long run and will be found out in the cox plate like he was last year.

also why the hell do these jockeys keep running slow slow slow races in sydney. the only way to beat lonhro over 1400 - 1600 metres is to make it a hard run race. Olivers ride on defier was woeful and why didnt someone take off at the 800metre mark and try to give them the slip. leave them all hanging off the bit. Jim Cassidy has taken off too early so many times in his career and killed the chances of many good horses but now it seems he has way too much patience. I dont know how this bloke keeps getting good rides particularly when munce seems to be losing a couple.

I couldn't agree more on the Lohnro thing he is a very good horse who gets every single race he has in Sydney run to perfectly suit him.

Lets see what happens in the Cox Plate this year if he wins that which I doubt he will then he is the champion that so many people want to make him already. The whole comparison of him to Octagonal is laughable the 2 horses arenot even in the same league.

The run that stuck out for me on the weekend would have been ambulance he probably spotted Classy Dane about 3 lengths with 250 metres to go and then just rattled home, However the problem for me as far as the Guineas goes the bias at Caulfield may ruin the chances of this horse to win the race only time will tell there.

I think this is two or three in a row where comments such as "unlucky" or "another giant run" have been the order of the day.... At what stage do you have to concede that

a) the riding tactics are wrong, or
b) the horse just can't cut it?

From memory the only thing of note she's won in Aus is a Listed Race for mares in Syd 6 months ago....

(and in case you can't tell.... I've backed her the last two starts...

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi Tragic,

sorry to disappoint you, but this is simply not possible.... I've just double checked my ticket, and I did indeed back the correct horse.....

It's just that the horse I backed didn't win

Cheers,
Chris.

GDAY CRASH
I WAS JUST WONDERING YOUR THOUGHT ON WHICH RUNNERS WOULD SHOW HIM WHAT A SUSTAINED RUN IS.
THANKS

Natural Blitz last win was an example of a great sustained run at M.Valley-fantastic sweeping finish wide from the 800m. Hmmm.
