If Australian racecallers are the best around,
then I guess you'd have to agree that Wayne Wilson is therefore the best caller in the world.

Have to agree with Shoto, i think Wayne Wilson is the best caller in Oz, in saying that why do Sky Racing stick with Alan Thomas over Wayne Wilson??? He is the most annoying caller in Oz.

Have to give a honourable mention to Bryan Markovic who whether he is calling a Kilmore Maiden treats it like the end of Melbourne Cup, great caller!!!

Terry from Adelaide calls the races like they are greyhound races - very bloody annoying when he's all hyped up 1200m out from home.

Wayne did a revolting job on the Spring Carnival last year. He lost half the field and never mentioned at least a quarter of them on more than one occassion.
This was not big race jitters (which could be excused)- he did this many times.

Dan Mielecki, even Clem Dimsey could do better.
Darren from Perth would be my pick - rumour has it he might be replacing a Sydney legend upon retirement.

shshshsh!

La Mer: While I've always considered Wilson a good racecaller, he ain't the best and after last years woeful effort, obviously Channel 7 thinks likewise as he has been given the big heave ho, with Greg Miles getting the gig this time around for the Melbourne Cup Carnvial with Bryan Martin covering the other major races during spring.

Id love to hear Bruce call the big one again!

IMO Bryan Martin is the best caller we have..... in fact Victoria provide the best racecallers in the business.

We have Terry here in Adelaide who is the most annoying caller of all, absolutely loves himself, thank f*** Hilton came home to call our races for Sky, he is becoming a very polished caller also

i too think wilson was shocking last spring, particularly his Cup call.

I love hearing the Tassie caller, or should that be 'screamer'-

"SET!!!" he yells, and at the end of a race, if it's even remotely close, i.e 1 length margin, he screams like a headless donkey, " DOWN THE O U T S I D E COMES....AND HE CAN'T MAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

do you know who I mean?? it's hilarious!!!

Intergaze

That Tassie caller is an absolute scream. His name is Peter Gilligan and apparently my Tassie friends say he loves a drink and he reads the news, calls races, trots and any other sport that needs a descriptive voice.

Have to agree Greg Miles the best, but someone who is equally good if not better unfortunatly doesn't call the gallops only the trots, and that's John Hunt in WA. I don't bet the trots but from time to time I tune in just to listen to his calls, sad case aren't I.

All the other callers have just modelled themselves on callers like Tappy who knew his stuff but was very monotone boring..

I recon Alan Thomas is ok... I know he's not the best because of his high pitched voice, but at least he can see the final stages, and who's a threat in the race. He is a good judge of pace, and asseses dangers 200 out, which is better than many callers who blurb out at the 50 that something is sprouting wings!!! At worst with Thomas, he will notice my horse was unlucky, or hampered, where others won't even mention the mellee. Sydney callers are the best though...
