Grey Song was arguably the run of the race in the CC, but I think Makybe Diva was the quiet achiever, and is my pick for the cup.

Cheers,
Chris.

One horse which is being forgotten byu alot of people very quickly is Honor Babe and seriously could be ridiculos odds come cup day. Don't take any notice of it's run in the Caufield Cup I gave it no hope of winning that race and here is the reason why.

It has now had 2 runs at Caufield this prep and they have both been substandard runs compared to its others at Flemington particularly. I don't think the horse can handle Caufield it is to tight of a track both of its runs have been identical there been there with a chance but just couldn't get going.

The horse likes Flemington and has rattled off some amazing sectionals there and it can run the distance all be it at a slightly lesser level if you liked this horse there is no reason not to now and at 20 or 30-1 I think there is a whole lot more to like about it.

MUMMIFY has been given a 2.5kg penalty, now to carry 55kg in the Cup.

Also FRIGHTENING penalised 1kg, now to carry 50kg in the Cup.

As for Frightening I like the horse I like wheher he is upto the Cup standard or can runout 2 miles for that matter is another thing. I also heard he would have to win the Moonee Valley Cup to Qualify it was sort of why I was looking for the order of acceptances for the cup he would need alot of luck to get in without winning the Moonee Valley Cup.

I like the comment by Raw Instinct. I have put Honor babe, Grey Song, Strasbourg and Makybe Diva as my early pick.

Wexford

HUG'S DANCER
Distincly Secret
Daneborough

Umrum I might be wrong there and I could be wrong with what I am going to say here that I believe it is the race which qualified Brew for the cup a couple of years back.

i could be wrong R.I but i think brew qualified through the 2500metre Saab quality at flemington on derby day. I think yippyio won the mv cup that year.

cheers

Actually now that you say it you very well might be right it sounds very familiar cause off memory I backed Brew in the M V Cup and a friend backed Yippyio and i vaguely remember he won.

I have just sat down and listened to racing retro and on there Joe McKinnon said to Alf Mathews that Bart would have to run Frightening in the M V Cup to qualify him and then Alf returned to say the horse wouldn't run 2 mile down a well.

Raw Instinct

As far as Frightening goes I personally think that it is a better horse than Rogan Josh it won the cup I think it was lucky but it got there. Obviously Bart knows how to get horses right for that one race because if it weren't for him Rogan Josh would never have even made the field let alone won the race. Just my opinion ofcourse.

A horse doesn't finish 4th in a Caulfield Cup, Win the Mackinnon as well as the Melbourne Cup and fluke it.

d secret no chance of running out 3200 metres

Raw Instinct

Umrum Distinctly Secret maynot run a strong 3200m but this field doesn't look to be anything special if he can reproduce the run from last year he could win this or atleast be in the placing.

I agree the Caufield Cup wasn't real strong and he certainly had every chance of winning the race had the great barrier and the great run to so I guess there has to be doubts there but I wouldn't write him off.

Now that Mummify has been penalized, he carries too much weight to win. So Distictly Secret is now a special, from Rose Archway, and the previous certainty, Mummify still strong in third. Next comes Shower of Roses, then who cares!

Thought a great run by Tumeric, in the Geelong Cup during the week.

Carrying 58kg - from a horror draw in gate 17 - sat at least four deep for most of the journey & still managed to finish third behind all-the-way winner Zazzman.

Drops 7kg to 51kg in the Melbourne Cup and remember this fellow did win last January's Perth Cup (3200m) by a convincing 3 lengths.

Raw Instinct
26th October 2003, 07:28 AM
Does anyone know if the win by Frightening yesterday puts him in with any better chance of making the cup at all I noticed he is in to 11-1 which is awfully I feel.

I am happy anyway took a double with Fields of Omagh to Honor Babe for the cup was paying $380 and I put $5 on it so I guess you can say I am hoping for the Babe to get up.
