View Full Version : pokies - a costly entertainment.

I honestly feel very sorry for the group of people I see throwing money into machines as I walk past them to the TAB. On the very rare and regretful occasion, I might put a max of $20 in a machine.

I am virtually always left walking away 5 mins later wondering why I spent 5 mins losing $20 when I could have used that money at the TAB and it would most likely have lasted 10 times longer.

The problem with pokies is that there is no skill or control involved. At least at the TAB I am somewhat more master of my own fate!

I believe pokie machines should be turned off between 3AM and 11Am every morning because there is no reason why someone should be spending those hours of the day infront of a machine.

At least the TAB is closed for 12 hours every day!

Agree with a lot of your points Fishbones, but what about people that work at night-time?
Shiftworkers etc should have the same rights as others.

PREDICTION:
TAB outlets will disappear almost completely within 10 years and you'll be placing your bets on every sport including local and overseas racing via the internet a la Betfair.
They are closing down outlets at an astronomical rate already.

Hi Chrome Prince. Thanks for the Reply.

I must say I find that prediction of your's rather scary. It reminds me of the uni I went to. I started at my uni the second year that the uni had been opened. The uni's original plan was to have all students basically studying by correspondence however virtually all students preferred to attend uni every day rather than do it from home.

With this as an example, social gambles would always much prefer to go to a tab or a pubtab than to bet at home from the internet as it provides a much better social environment. I would be very suprised if this did happen and I think it would be a shame.

Just thinking about pokies, maybe they should start looking at making machines that involve an element of skill rather than random numbers. Don't really have any suggestions as to how they could do this. Just a thought.

Cheers

like speed cameras except you can control the speed of your car but not the speed you lose your money on those things. Only plus side is cheap crownies and meals at clubs.

I'll drink to that Umrum. Out here in the bush, where ealse can you get a half price T-bone on Tuesday but at our friendly RSL. Compliments to all the pokie addicts.

On a more serious note the pokies are a sad affair and as a society we are ALL the poorer because of them and the social cost reverberates throughout the community. It's the lonely/poor pensioner/unemployed etc. that are hit the hardest. Note sucking machines and 1c machines are the ultimate disgrace to this insidious industry as are the on premises cash out machines and staff wearing a smile.

Cheers.

I just went to quicklinks and had a look at what someone was looking at.

Not sure how you do it exactly but wish I did - want to look at AHJAYS old system.

I know how to beat a pokie machine! Dont play it at all. Your better off giving money to charity. On the same note! they should ban the kiddies casino..Trading tickets for prizes. By the time these kids collect enough tickets they havent realised that they are paying 10x more for it.

For me, if i ever see myself sitting behind those woeful machines i will rightly ask someone to slap me in the face.

They, to me, are the worst form of gambling on earth.

depends on how u were brought up. I was brought up in a poor family and i went through alot. We had nothing, and we were living down to the dollar. The one thing im proud to get out of this suffering is determination and the way i look at life and money now. I used my determination to get to where i am today but im not taking it for granted. Ive seen what pokies has done to those around me and those I know. Only idiots play pokies, I see it this way. You win this week! you invest in that machine again. You never WIN!

It is a good thing i copied it down when i first seen it.

your lucky. I am new to this website and as a gift here is a system to help out a novice.
for somewhere for u to start try this
1. last start winner
2. must have "c" listed (after barrier position)
3. last run within 14 days.
4. distance 1100m to 1800m.
if further elimination is wanted or required to reduce the number of bets, add

5. total number of wins and number of places for todays distance. this total to be 60% of the number of runs at todays distance.
eg. 10 runs 1 win 5 places is 60%
6. do the same for track condition but this total to be 20%

this works and i have done the homework.

I also have others which work well over short distance as well as races over 200m.

good luck from AHJAY (an old punter)

Chrome Prince.You are a star.

The bottom line is the bottom line.
Considering that the TAB takeout is about 17%,then throwing darts at a formguide will return just as good a financial reward as AHJAY RULES

And HAYCHEE was kind enough to give us his poker machine system for FREE too.

Re AHJAY SYSTEM I used it for a year with good results using " BET SMARTER AND WIN" staking plan on lousy tote odds .
Would no doubt have done better with IAS best price.
I never used the 2nd part of the plan..

Not having a go but I just find it funny how everyone has rubished pokies (rightly so) and then started talking about horse racing systems, which are, in my believe, just as bad. Yes it may take longer to lose your pants, but one things for sure, you eventually will.

Your not wrong there.

I have 300 of the buggers from various sources - 95 % from the 2 main system sellers and 99 % would not be worth the paper they are printed on.

Our mate HAYCHEE ( tongue firmly in cheek ) always gives us a laugh or two which tends to brighten the day somewhat.

Cheers.

ps .Whatever happened to that other bundle of fun Dr ********.
