Pathetic race really I wish Starcraft was still out and about rather than spelling cause they were talking about going to this race for the showdown with Lonhro.

On RANVET form SOUND ACTION looks the main danger to LONHRO.
AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' (40/1) could add a little value to the multiples.
Hard to get too enthused.

Your kidding, even after he got knocked down in the aust cup, he still gave sound action a cold,as it gave in pretty meekly, so i think if grand armee has recovered from his cold and can back up from the doncaster, he should pick up 2nd prizemoney.

Grand Armee, a sure thing. Five wide in the Doncaster and kept finding.
A question for you smarties, what's the connection between Dupain and Grand Armee?

$1.00 the winner
$1.05 the Exacta.
$1.01 the Tri. and Quin.
Not betting but worth watching the was he/wasn't he Champ exit stage left, without ever facing in form and 100% fit real comp. except when he met Northerly and lost [they paid Starcraft connections to keep him at home] !!!
A 100% Grand Armee could win this and that horse ain't no 'champ', just a pro. place getter.
When it comes to 'Champ' it's not how much you won, but who you beat and Lohno has never faced another champ and won. Not ever. It was no champ who beat him in the Cox last time either.
Cheers.

Dupain
Grand Armee was of course the name given to Napoleon's men, and dupain (bread) was their staple diet. No doubt there's a less complicated link.

Will be great to see the Champ who has the most Group 1 wins and the most consistent form salute for the final time.

Dupain the genius!
And history repeats itself.
I'm sure Intergaze can remember his namesake's colours. Blue & white diagonal stripes. Grand Armee??? diagonal stripes. The race was over at the 800m mark. So much for nearly everyone's certainty.

Dr Alan Bell is the genius. Very astute in selecting yearlings with limited finances. He trained Dupain and owns Grand Armee and owned Schillaci, Primacy, Beachside all Group 1 Winners. I think GA can stay, it was an unfortunate ride by J Cassidy in the Caufield Cup. He's he next big thing Guys, bring on Staercraft
BTW Chrome Prince, Lonhro will be shooting blanks at stud too as he was on the race track. You're gonna know what feels like to lose five million will your going to pay $66,000 a pop for a horse that can't put in when TRUE pressure was on.
Failed when True Pressure was on:
Blue Diamond
Slipper
Cox Plate .... Twice
Doncaster
How is he a Champion when he can't win the big ones?

End quote.
The great pretender, beaten by a professional place getter. You were right about 'consistent' [consistently beaten every time by any serious opposition and/or the BIG races that real champs win].
Your small quin. dosn't wipe my grin Chrome :-}
I took the win money on GA instead [could't help myself and just had to have a bet against the 'champ'] !!!

i endorsed lonhro last week with good will and hoped he could go out a winner.
but last year after the cox plate i was challenged by some forum members about criticising or suggesting that beadman could have ridden lonhro better in the cox plate.
this is not to say he would have won but he leaves his rides open to doubt the way he rides the horse.
champions eye ball champpions and dont give starts in group ones.
remember northerly in the cox plates and caulfield cups he sat on their hammer.
sunline didnt give starts.
if they get beat like that as did northerly in sydney and patrick payne was cane don this form at least paddy didnt give starts and the horse was beaten by other horses who didnt give northerly a start either.
i went to moonee valley last august and on the wall there is the list of winners on the plaques and there are no pretenders there.
i dont think lonhro would have been out of place ont he wall.
beadman may indeed ride well but his method leaves a question mark.
at least paddy payne didnt leave that question whether he is at fault or not he didnt give starts.

darren beadman leaves his riding methods open to doubt.
champions in these races eyeball champions.
ala northerly suncline fields of omagh etc.
lonhro gives them a start. i have said this before and it leaves beadman open to doubt.
it may be fair or unfair.
paddy payne at least didnt give starts on notherly.

as a punter i leave a lot to be desired.
so for me to give expert opinion would be fairly open to challenge.
but to give an idea how good i am
i never ever backed manikato when he won.
he won 31 out of 42 (?) but backed him several times when he lost.
i never ever put a cent on lonhro no did i bet particularly recent when he was running including yesterday.
although i did watch as grand armee was shortening seriously in the betting and still did not have a go.
but summing it up (in hindsight) grand armee has a huge strike rate and won good races and is a very likeable performer.
a well deserved win and well ridden and i take my hat off to the trainer.
i think the shame of it was we couldnt watch it direct and enjoy the moment.
lonhro had been up for a while mixing his distances etc so it wasnt a totally unexpected result. as we saw with northerly at times there just wasnt the program going at the time to give perfect preparations.
thanks for a great experience and hope that his retirement is successful.

No experts here Topsy as we all wear the dill/genius hats.
Lohnro connections should have heeded Octaganal's last race omen in the same race.
Went out a looser to Intergaze.
Beadman was asleep at the wheel and should have taken control in such a slow pace. A shocking ride but credit to Gail who finaly woke up and put GA in the right race and distance.
cheers.

I thought d. oliver was suppose to be the best rider in australia, bullcrap!! he slaughtered county tyrone twice in a row now, fancy leading on it what a wanker!! after that i knew it was 100/1, the only time i back him is in melb on a horse that i can even win on.
Mark

Who would back a horse that hasn't won for almost 2 years?
topsy99
18th April 2004, 06:56 PM
as a matter of interest in the times i have followed racing one thing i have noticed is that very few horses can lift over 400 metres and win.
eg. lonhro 2000-1500-2000 is a big ask and i think his training-prep left a lot to be desired.
a start in the doncaster would have been a better idea.
but again hindsight.
i think the hype of his reputation probably beat him.
jock and trainer may have thought he was a superhorse.
back to the comparisons with northerly they were always realistic and eyeballed the opposition.
his will to win carried him a long way.
but its not the end of the world they were very kind to lonhro with low number of starts and retiring at 5 is generous.

Terrible ride by beadman (0f course) to let a great horse like GA walk in the lead it would have been mathematically impossible for lohnro to pick him up. The other jocks in the race (apart from beasley) are also guilty when they saw how easy he led at least one should have challenged. Grand Armee would have nearly won anyway however between the 300 and the finishing post he would have put at least an extra two lenghts on lohnro.
Cheers ED
