In his own words he "stuffed up" as Beasley let Grand Armee idle in front making it mathematically impossible for Lonhro to ever pick him up.
"He got to within three lengths at the 300 metres and I thought Grand Armee might be suspect but he put another three lengths on me," Beadman said.
"I should have got into the race earlier."
At least he acknowledges his mistake, unlike another N.Z. jockey who threw a race away and to this day argues he was right.

Shaun,
Two of octagonal's best wins were ridden by Dye. Remember when he took the initiative and took off mid field?
Hey, if he took Vandy towards the rails it would have slowed its momentum and most likely be bogged down. Only lost by a head not six lenghts.
Dye earns more on one winning ride in HK than Bossy did over this carnival. It's a gift from heavan to have a contract with the HK Jockey Club. Ask Hayes and Size and they were winning the big ones in Aus. Competing on the world stage is the ultimate.
Dye, Hayes, Size a great loss for Aus racing. Dye is a complete rider.

You can't take a horse into the grandstand without it losing twice as much ground as following the other horses that were all racing in the "bog".
The losing margin was testament to how good Vandy was and he should have won by at least 3 lengths.
But we all have different views about everything on this forum.
The problem with leading trainers and riders is ego - they think they can do anything on a horse and it will perform, it doesn't work like that - you just can't defy basic horseriding.
