Desi, after last week i have decided to stop tipping in all my comps, as for the pies i reckon they will do a bit better but the saints by 28.

Desi,

I never enter tipping comps. I'm VERY superstitious and I always worry that if I tip my favourite team, it'll jinx them or something. If I did enter a tipping comp, I'd probably tip AGAINST my team most weeks. I also worry that I might jinx the teams I bet on. Silly, huh?

For some reason I profit off my fave teams. I made a profit off NSW (probally mostly against tho  ). I also made profits of Aus in the world cup. Agghh I had to bring it up didn't I...

Whether tipping or betting, they both make watching sport that much more interesting...I gained an appreciation and enjoyment re AFL once I started tipping comp at work and became an avid Dockers from there...they were losing everything back then though so it was easy (and profitable?) to back the other team HAHA!

The World Cup Mr J...bring on 2007...reckon I am going to go mate too!!!

Good luck this weekend!

Go the Dockers!

I almost never bet on my favourite teams, but I do quite often bet against them if I think the opposition are a genuine chance and are over the odds. Last year, I did very well betting against the Lions and the Broncos on the line. In a previous thread, I outlined just how poorly those two teams went 'against the spread' last year.

By the way, speaking of the World Cup, I actually backed England 12 months before the tournament even began at the very juicy odds of $5.50. However, when Australia made the final, I was hoping to lose that bet. I may be a punter, but I'm an Australian supporter first!

Tonight was an example. I took +7.5 about Newcastle in the NRL. I thought that was very generous.

After watching the roosters/ sharks game i switched over to watch the lions/ carlton last quarter. The blues must have been ordinary in the 1st 3 quarters , but it was good footy to watch as they had the lions on the back foot kicking 7 straight goals and then aker kicking a couple.

Carlton did pretty well, but I reckon Brisbane went to sleep and let them back in. During the week, Voss had talked about the fact that the Lions are missing a 'killer instinct' and aren't putting teams away by as much as they should. It happened again last night. They probably should have won by about 80 points last night, but credit to the Blues for putting up a good fight.

Amazing 3rd quarter by the lions, no wonder they took it a bit easy in the last.

I didnt see the first three quarters, were the lions "in their groove", because when carlton forced the pace in the last 1/4 they seemed to get rattled, that seems the way to play them, st kilda did it and for a while the swans did it, but in the last 5-10 minutes they steadied and controlled the ball.

Brisbane started brilliantly in the first quarter, were okay in the 2nd quarter and then went beserk in the first part of the 3rd quarter to lead by 71 points. I think at that point they sort of put the cue in the rack, but I'm not taking anything away from Carlton. They played very well to come back.

Thanks sportz,i cant watch all of the games live, but i get to see 10 of the 15 games in NRL and AFL, like you i dont normally watch a game a couple of hours later unless it is between 2 top teams.I didnt want to keep flicking over last night because i was watching my money go round, had my biggest bet on football in years on the roosters.

Lions looked unbeatable in the first 3 quarters...and the Saints keep winning...does that put Eddie's Pies out for the 8?

moeee

I had the Pies at 33-1 to make the 8.
And that was before the St.Kilda game.
I think 33's is still about the right odds.

watched bits and pieces of the kangaroos/ pt adel game, even though i backed the kangaroos , i couldnt believe the score, the power had none [ha ha] and lived up to their away record; hopeless.

Statistics are an incredible thing. Today's games show that previous performances often count far more than current form. The Demons had been in tremendous form so far this year but they haven't won at Geelong since 1988 I think, so the Cats were a great bet. Similarly, the Kangaroos have an absolutely AMAZING record against the Power, and Hawthorn have a great record in Tassie, so they were both good value as well.

There you go Mr J, 3 home dogs there. That system doesn't only work in S12.

yep, agree there, wish i had something on geelong - thats 10 in a row at skilled stadium against melb, but i couldnt back hawthorn with bad money, even though they had previously won 10/14 against the dockers, just limited my AFL bet to the kangaroos as i didnt want to get greedy, i thought they were the better bet of the 3 but were the longest price of them ? $2.65

Just went back and had a look at the 3 sunday games- on stats it was a easy allup, @ $12.60 should have thrown a couple of bucks on it.. oh well

Well, I backed all 3 of them on the line because they were selections for my 'home dog' system and it turned out I could have backed them all outright.

I have to admit I wasn't confident about the Hawks' chances. My biggest bet today was on Geelong. That incredible home record against the Demons was too good to ignore.
