View Full Version : Mo's AFL roll-your-owns,2004

Well I started with a bank of $300 and Lady Luck was smiling at me.There is now $1030 in the kitty. And at $100 per round I can actually make the finals without breaking the bank.
I don't wish to advertise the .....website but I do recommend one type of betting available there.
It's called roll your own line bets.
A few knowledgable people can attest to the beauty of this form of betting.
My brother in law told me you can't soar like an eagle if you hang around with a bunch of galahs.
But I do have to be honest. If I had have started the rollies a week ago,and I did try but couldn't get on,I would have lost the weekly $100.
But now I have the vibe and the gut factor working for me,and watch out here I come.

Bank now stands at $890.

Tell you what though. It doesn't hurt anywhere near as much when you lose money that you have previously won, than money you busted your arse for.

Also,2 of my favourite things,NOT.
Losing money at gambling.

well my luck has deserted me this
week.i took lions to win 40-59 at $3.85 with unitab.they got to 53 and then i worried they'd run riot and they went to sleep and won by 36.michael voss missed a snap just before the siren that would have got me back to 41.
there is no more cookies in the account( having done the right thing and paid some bills with last weeks coffers) but if there was i would take port -23.5 into demons -29.5 into canterbury dogs -5.5 which would be around $4.90
cheers

Just 1 small multi today, as i'm going to the knights/broncos game,

SWANS -18.5
PORT -20.5 @ $7.71

moeee
18th July 2004, 03:56 PM
Hey Goldmember.
Quick.Tell me where you're getting your prices from.
$7.71 ain't bad for that bet.Plus it came in.
What were the individual prices?

rabbitz
18th July 2004, 03:59 PM
moeee how did the swans win by more than 18.5
i must have been watching another game ,i thought cats won

moeee
18th July 2004, 04:13 PM
That's what happens when you miss a winner that could have been a $600 collect.
Lose concentration.
I thought the bet meant Sydney could have lost by upto 18 points.

Rabbitz.I recall something about shouting beers and a big collect for you a month ago.
And now your account is a nasty shade of red.
What the?

rabbitz
18th July 2004, 04:27 PM
moeee
being an amateur I like to take the money out and pay bills etc with it
So instead of having a big bank I start each weekend with the same bank,in my case around $50.So having said that If my original bank and profits were still in account it would be
around $950-Bank($250)=$700
Sport odds dont let you transfer money on weekends by normal transfer,(which is probably a blessing and a curse)
so thats the story
cheers

moeee
18th July 2004, 04:46 PM
Your right Rabbitz.I did put all my Bombers in one basterd,er,I mean basket.

One more of my favourite things.Not.
The five day gap between bets on AFL.

moeee
21st July 2004, 10:59 AM
Seconds out.Round 17.

Kangaroos -16.5
Collingwood -19.5
$50 @ $3.85 = $192.5

Essendon +26.5
Kangaroos -16.5
Collingwood -19.5
$40 @ $6.15 = $246

Kangaroos -16.5
Collingwood -19.5
Melbourne -25.5
$40 @ $6 = $240

Total outlay = $130.Bank becomes $750

Now get on.

Bank now sitting on $942.50 with a possible collect of $240 if the Dees can win by over 25 points.
Looks like I'm off to the "G" tomorrow to smell some of the green.
Hoping I only come back with a red face due to the celebrating.
Gosh it feels good to win.I can recommend it to everyone.

moeee
25th July 2004, 06:48 PM
Thank you to the Gods of punting.
$240 in the kitty brings the Bank up to $1182.50
Got to be careful that the Vibe doesn't get disguised by over confidence.
See you next week fans.

moeee
30th July 2004, 09:44 AM
You know what I hate?.I hate when you get all excited about winning some more money, and you find out there just ain't any money to be won.

For the sake of having a bet I'm doing this.

Kangaroos by less than 40
Collingwood by over 40 points.
A lazy $20 Multi.

moeee
31st July 2004, 10:28 AM
Ugly game last night.
Let's play some beautiful music with $70 the Pies -22.5
$2.02 means a profit of $51.40 for the round.
Or a $90 loss.

3rd time lucky?

ht/ft double.Essendon/Port.
$10 @ $6.15

moeee
1st August 2004, 07:45 PM
Win,Lose,Win,Lose.
What comes next in this sequence?
WIN!.Get ready for the onslaught next weekend boys.
Spilt the lollies this week, after looking good for a while.Pies gone cold.
So we're sitting on $1082.50 and ready to rumble.

moeee
4th August 2004, 02:50 PM
St.Kilda -35
Bulldogs +6
$50 @ $3.75 equals $187.50

St.Kilda -35
Kangaroos +30
Bulldogs +6
$40 @ $6.25 equals $250

St.Kilda -35
Carlton +48
Kangaroos +30
Bulldogs +6
$30 @ about $9.10 equals $273

So the Bank now stands at $926.50
Wrong side of a grand for my liking.
Show me the way o ye mighty punting Gods!

By the way.The Vibe tells me Archers 250th is worth at least a goal or two.
And also it tells me the Kangaroos seem only to win when their finals chances are all but lost.
May the Vibe be with you.

A money back weekend chaser.

moeee
7th August 2004, 09:08 PM
Lot of sweat for no reward.
So now its $15 on this one.

Eagles +31.5
Geelong -36.5
Port -20.5

Returns $156 to make the Bank $1053.50
Or will it be $897.50

moeee
8th August 2004, 05:50 PM
Sorry fans. But the light shining through the ozone layer was just a mirage.
Got to build up the Bank for 2005.Learnt heaps this year.Once I shove this knowledge into my tipping,we'll have money galore!
Still got 3 home and aways to do the J.O.B. and still in front, but surely after six reds in a row,a black is due.

8th August 2004, 05:56 PM
Moeee, what hapeens when the afl finishes for the year, do you sit back and wait for next year or do you have a punt on other sports.

moeee
8th August 2004, 06:12 PM
Being a Gamblerholic,Goldmember,I just continue fronting up at the local tote and throw my money away.It is only on AFL that I put effort into my betting.
I am starting to see Mr J as my new role model. Not for his peculiar activities or mannerisms, but for his commitment to treating his betting as a business.
Am considering devoting some effort into Greyhound betting.Plenty of bets means plenty of turnover, which hopefully means plenty of income.

Mr J
9th August 2004, 09:53 AM
Thanks for the words Mo. Just feel that if you want to make money, you can't do it half-assed  It's a pretty unforgiving line of work.

moeee
9th August 2004, 10:12 AM
How about starting up a Dear Mr J thread. When you ain't got much on,you can answer or not, special questions that I need answered.
Like how can I resist the temptation of having a bet when I say +32 and can only get +31.And how much does a realistic bank need to be.I've got millions of them.Well, more than two anyway.

rabbitz
9th August 2004, 01:22 PM
What do greyhounds chase Mo? ,how could you
With greyhounds you need a lot of inside info
Cheers

moeee
9th August 2004, 03:43 PM
GreyhoundsThey are supposed to be chasing a lure, but from what I'm seeing,it's more like most of them are chasing each other.
Inside information?.Like what they had for breakfast and lunch?.

moeee
9th August 2004, 04:05 PM
Got caught up in the excitement of the Brownlow,so Bank stands at $797.50 with a collect of $700 should Chris Judd collect his very deserving award.

rabbitz
9th August 2004, 05:04 PM
Now from what ive heard around the traps is that gambling on most things has the old fixeroo element.I remember a game where the swans were playing one of the lower teams late last year, they were in front by 40points with 4 seconds to go when there was a very obvious rushed behind ,margin 39 points then siren,so i thinks to meself, how filthy would you have been if you took 40+ at say $2 and 1-39 was $3.25.I reckon some teams bet on themselves in all codes, horses are pulled up all the time and greyhounds are given water or butter or have there balls squeezed.
So when I say inside info ,I mean from the horses or dogs or footballers mouth. There are variables outside your control.Last year when West coast beat Lions at Gabba by 69 points, matthews thought hello this ones out of reach take the good players off, they didnt care whether Wc won by 40 or 80.Now you might say what has all this got to do with anything
I just think there is more going on in sport, politics etc.Now I'm not saying I read NEXUS magazine and think that osama bin laden is living in Washington and is employed by the CIA,Im just saying there is form you can follow and there is form that blows you out of the water.collingwood won on Friday at Subiaco, thats a miracle isnt it
Cheers

moeee
10th August 2004, 10:50 AM
Gee,there's a fair mouthful.Maybe you should start a thread about the rigging element in gambling.
One thing is that I always thought miracles were for the benefit of Mankind.

moeee
10th August 2004, 07:13 PM
Haven't quite got it perfect at the minute, but it seems to revolve around:

Brisbane -43
Adelaide -21
$50 @ about $4.10 equals $205

Essendon +10
Brisbane -44
Adelaide -21
$40 @ about $6.10 equals $244

Brisbane -44
Adelaide -22
Kangaroos +40
$40 @ about $6.00 equals $240

Total of $130 invested brings us back to $667.50

Go the angry Lions.

Played around with Olympic games and dropped $38.
Took an AFL foursome, but had the Kangaroos at +18.5,so another $20
Treble come in with a collect of $147 brings the Bank balance to $737.50
Strange, when you tell the world about your views, you end up with egg on your face. But when you keep it hush-hush,the bankroll thickens.
Maybe Sportznut,Goldmember and Rabbitz knew about this secret influence all along.

Same thing happened to me moeee when i 1st started posting my bets, they were losing and heard everyone talking about the FORUM CURSE, but it seems to have started to wear off after a couple of hundered bets.

sportznut
15th August 2004, 07:37 PM
Since I posted the rules of my homedog system, it has done brilliantly, but I still don't post the selections on here each week, and the 'forum curse' is the major reason for that.

moeee
15th August 2004, 07:40 PM
I'm thinking it works like this.
We make our selections differently when we know that we are going to show them to the world.
Bit like picking your nose.In private I might or might not do it all the time. But in public, never.
Every year, about this time,I learn things ready for next year. But every year these things I learn don't help.
Think I might have to write a book and have it superglued to my forehead.Better still, chop off my head and superglue book onto my neck.

sportznut
15th August 2004, 07:53 PM
Not yet Goldmember. What a damn slow frustrating process it is!!! Probably spending too much time on here. Anyway, ready or not, I'll definitely start posting racing tips again when the olympics are over and the big Spring races come around.

Speaking of 'next-timers', I got a terrible feeling on Saturday. While listening to the races, I suddenly heard a horse called Nasrullah King get up and win a race at Newcastle. After it's last start, I'd actually marked it down as a horse to follow, but come Saturday and of course I didn't even notice it running. I'm going to have to start using Racenet's Blackbook service again.

Have faith in ur boys, they will be 2 good for the saints especially with Lynch back.

I agree totally Goldmember. I can't see logically how anyone can be confident that the Dees can win, so then surely your just hoping that West Coast doesn't smash 'em.
If i think one team is much more likely to win, i'd always prefer to back them to beat the spread, then simply hope that my team doesn't get pulverised.

Had a quarter quad going up till half time.Needed the Pies to lead the 3rd and fourth quarters by between 13 and 36 points.
They usually pay over a couple hundred for your five bob so I was not happy Jan when Carlton came home hard after the main break.
So 3 quarter time that was that. Then I wasn't sure whether I Multied Collingwood at plus 3 or minus 3 points.
Then in the final minutes it didn't seem to matter.I'm gone. Then the Punting Gods parted the sky asunder and smote the umpire into awarding the Pies a kick at goal with a minute to go.
Multi lives.Long Live The Multi.

Haven't had a good look at your stats,Goldmember but I believe Melbourne seem to do allright in WA.

Thought I'd give the ratings a burl,it being the last round an'nat.
Guts was telling me the Demons aren't playing well but I still went the ratings.
Kangaroos not playing well either but I still went the ratings.Although I still thought 60 points start should have been enough.
Thought the Power would go away with it as well.
Looking back, after the race mind you,I could have left out Melbourne and put in Port Power for a winning weekend.
As it was I had a saving double with Eagles and Geelong. But lost another $20 on Geelong into Power to win by 40 plus.
Anyway Bank was $405 and now it's $651.20 so should get through the final series with the starting Bank of $300 intact.MAYBE!

My teams and margins this week.

Port Power -14
Brisbane -19
Sydney -5
Melbourne +5

Most,if not all,are at the $1.66 mark.
Probably combine them in trebles for $40 and a quadrella for $30 to set me back $190.

Slight concern with Melbourne is that I could be flogging a dead horse. But Geez the guts are telling me to get on.
What do you reckon Mugsy.

I am a don supporter as you know, mo, but with Neitz out and now Heffernen I reckon we will win.
Our top 4 or 5 players are as good as any in the league and I think they will get themselves up for this one. We arent good enough to keep backing that up week in, week out but when they come to play they go pretty well.
Melbourne, well who knows! As you know up to a couple of weeks ago I did rate them, but they are just going.
Fletcher is back in redhot form for Essendon and he is our most important player in terms of structure.
Without Neitz I can see him dominating and setting up all of our defensive play.
It's a tough call but on the balance of probabilities I'd be taking Essendon to win.
In other games im backing Brisbane 1-39, they wont smash the saints unless the saints are already of thinking of week 2 of the finals.Kossie makes a HUGE difference to their structure. Dont kiss your flag bets away yet. Imagine if they do get over the Lions how good your bets will be looking then!
Im finding the swans eagles clash the hardest to pick. I would only pick the swans because it's in their home state, but I really reckon Telstra Stadium doesn't suit them and it will suit West Coasts running game. Will wait till the last minute before I have a dip on that one, if I bet at all.
I will obviously be having a bet on Geelong to win and at the line but I wont be having too big a bet. They're such good value I dont need to.

I went like this:

Melbourne +9
Sydney -10
$50 returns $152

Port Power -8
Melbourne +9
Sydney -10
$40 returns $171.60

Brisbane -15
Melbourne +9
Sydney -10
$40 returns $184.50

Brisbane -15
Port Power -8
Melbourne +9
Sydney -10
$30 returns $195

Bank was at $651.50 which now drops to $491.50

I still think it's much more fun betting with winnings than it is with the bread and milk money!

Avery astute punter at the tote told me earlier that Wildly loves a wet track. And Flemington was rated dead. And now it's been pissing down for 2 hours(Rabbitz need not comment,as usual),and it doesn't appear as though there will be any respite. So what price was this Wildly thing?(You can comment now Rabbitz)

Nothing like having a Melbourne weather man on course, beautiful.
Well mo it seems the old rabbitz has turned the corner with his first multi of the weekend coming in and the dividend covered all the others which are now kindly funded by Sport odds,Thanks Boys. The kindliest note of all was that Penrith(ah me beloved panthers)
leading by 22 with about 7 secs to go score in the corner to give my Penrith -25.5 multi mouth to mouth,Now if the other three get up it will be crownies all round.
Cheers
P.S.Do you live close to Flemington

Had a losing saver of $40 on Essendon over 9 points, dropping Bank down to $451.50
So Sydney to win by over 10 points gets things happening in the right direction.
Saver of $20 on the Eagles to ease any possibility of heart seizure during the match.
Bank at $431.50 and off to the telly.
Good Luck everyone who is relying on Sydney for a comfortable win.

5th September 2004, 10:01 AM
So sitting on $768 and the Power to go.
Feel much at ease that I took the fairly safe option of -8.5 points.
Looking forward to a collect to set the Bank to a new high of $1134.60
Also looking forward to next year with my new approaches to selections.
Modifying ratings to allow for the ins and outs of players. And trying to define more closely how to incorporate the Vibe and the Gut factor.
Still not quite sure if they are one and the same.
Good Luck everyone except Mug Punta.
Nothing personal Mugsy, but shit mate you can afford to miss this one.
Hey,I know. What about Port to win between 9 and 22 points.
GO POWER!

5th September 2004, 04:09 PM
Well done young Rabs
So next week we have
Essendon v Geelong then v Brisbane
St Kilda v Sydney then v Port Adelaide
So the most obvious scenario would be
Geelong beat Essendon
St Kilda beat Sydney
Brisbane beat Geelong
Port Adelaide beat St Kilda or other way round
Brisbane to crush either Port or St Kilda
Cheerio

Well done Mo. Nice collect.
I ended up only betting small on the cats because I was well up for the weekend, but, im glad to see most punters on this forum seemed to have cleaned up this weekend.
I still have ? marks over Port. Cats had stage fright early but after half time had a lot more run than Power.
Final margin isn't a real reflection because the cats gave up in the last 10 mins when it became obvious they couldn't win.
Swans will be very hard to beat this week and ill be really looking 4ward to the prelim between Port and swans. Would be a great game.
Cats will give my bombers a touch up this week so im having something on the cats and swans to win the flag.
Reckon they will both be silly odds.
All you mugs out there can take the $1.58 about the Lions winning the flag. They're not even there yet and the cats will put up a much better show at the 'g then what the saints did at the Gabba.

erikson
5th September 2004, 04:41 PM
No hope the cats,sorry mugs

mug punta
5th September 2004, 04:44 PM
Its all about looking 4 value.
I reckon ill get 15-1 about cats and 10-1 about swans.
If they get through to the final 4 those odds will be looking ok to me.
Then if one of those 2 knock off the faves I cant lose cos ill lay off.

erikson
5th September 2004, 04:52 PM
Yes I understand that but 15-1 and 10-1 may as well be 150-1 and 100-1,because there will be no return for your pocket, whereas Port and Brisbane will give a return, well one of them will. You might be better off taking 3 or 4 all up bets tredrea-Brisbane,Port,Riewoldt-Brisbane,Port,Judd-Brisbane/Port
Black-Brisbane/Port etc

moeee
5th September 2004, 06:35 PM
Thanks Mugs.
You know.I love reading your stuff because much of it is full of shit. The rest is quite interesting.
It's the full of shit bit that makes me feel confident.Like what the Power done today.
What they done was what they done and they are certainly capable of doing it again and again.Of course the Cats are better than that, but not much.
I'm surprised you are going against the Bombers.I agree with the tip but am surprised you can see it.
Money down the drain on those roughies.Suggest you take them in Quinellas with Brisbane.
And the biggest mistake you have made since tipping Melbourne that day,is flushing the Saints down the toilet.
What happened to them Friday night would have happened to any opposition that night.
Heed He Who Knows.

moeee
5th September 2004, 08:07 PM
So back to $1134.60 and with St.Kilda and Geelong quite possibly starting the underdogs next weekend makes for more good value bets coming up.
And one to bear in mind is the St.Kilda - Brisbane Quinella.
Think it is about a $4 chance.
The other big danger of course is the Port - Brisbane Quinella.Think it should be about $2.15,but you won't get that.

moeee
7th September 2004, 09:35 AM
Only 2 races to bet on makes it awkward to find value.
Fortunately the consensus of opinion has it wrong in both games.
Looks like I will go $70 straight out on St.Kilda.
And a $50 double straight out again with Geelong.
But thinking back to last weeks game with Melbourne, may take the security in both games of a 6 point head start.JUST IN CASE.
Especially as the punting season is almost over.Be nice to go out on a winner!

moeee
10th September 2004, 04:10 PM
Well that's it then.

$70 on St.Kilda @ +4.5 points Returns $140

$50 Multi
St Kilda +4.5
Geelong +7.5
Returns about $170

Put $20 on Barry Hall to run a place in the Count.
And put $25 on NRL.
Can't remember what it was but Maverick said it is over the line.
2 short favourites plus the Storm in a threesome.

Total of $165 makes Bank about $969.
