I am a pretty good environmental chemist.(scientist) Mass Spectrometers are a breeze to me. It looks as though I should plan on staying gainfully employed in science, since I obviously cannot pick Aussie thoroughbred winners.

Yes indeed, Tragic. I have always been quite modest. I'm actually listed in the top 100 environmental chemists in the world.(listed in "Who's Who") We must all learn to laugh at ourselves and our many shortcomings as humans to stay sane. I have never really been the "mad" scientist or "nerd" type. Now, if I could just learn to punt .....HAHA

Glenn

you cant do the impossible.
its a brave man/woman who would bet at wodonga in the first place.
picking a winner is a bonus.

enjoy the sport. on the law of averages we all pick a winner now and again.

canterbury is very ordinary today will be giving it a miss.
doomben the same.
gawler washed out so that leaves sandown and belmont.
and sandown doesnt have much to offer me.
might dabble at tescos empire at belmont although barrier eleven is a bit of a turn off.
oh well theres alway tomorrow.

Fascinating concept. I know some who are working with artificial intelligence to attempt to create a model to pick winners. It has long been my theory that horseracing is a nebulous mix of art and science, thus pure science fails to reliably predict the outcome of a microcosm such as a particular field of runners traversing a certain distance on a given day of their respective lives. Really too many variables, and how to weigh each into a general equation will drive one mad. Anyway, after 20 years of scientifically studying horseracing, I am little better off than tossing a dart or using a Ouija board to pick winners. Evidently, the art part of it eludes me. Our mate William, however, seems to have an incredible understanding of how the various
handicapping factors correlate. I am here to learn, and better my handicapping skills; I appreciate all who assist me in this aim.

Glenn

remember the great chicago punter pittsburgh phil an his wonderful maxim.

"in a field of 8 the odds of picking the winner is 7/1"

a wonderful handicapping theory.
