Ok, trying to sus if there's a fan base for this little horsey. The last fanworthy horses I'm aware of are Lonhro & Northerley. I was a huge Northerley fan after Roy & HG labelled him "The Schitzophrenic Horse." And I hated Sunline. So yeah, I'm following Starcraft this season, but just can't believe Northerley is still racing, and for the record how old is he?

Your obviously not a real Northerly fan if you don't know his age. He is eight years old. I backed starcraft in the debonair and I believe he has a pretty reasonable fan base. I'm a pretty big wrap for the horse but I must say "Go Northerly"

No prizes for guessing who I want to win the Cox Plate.

But I have a lot of time for Starcraft, it's a shame that Reset isn't still racing. I reckon the 2 of them would have had some awesome battles.

GO NORTHERLY!!!!!!!!!!

Not many horses get criticised for a bad run when they win a group 2 race on foriegn soil. This fellow is exceptional and i cant wait to see him when he comes to Melbourne.

I have been on this horse since he was running around in brisbane I remeber a race there where he was boxed in all the way till the 100m mark then he finally got some space and came from about 6 lengths off them to win by about a length I have never seen anything like it in my life.

That was the run that got me hooked backed him almost every start since but lately I haven't cause I refuse to back horses paying less than $2.50.

So...did Northerley race as a 2 year old? And dude, you're obviously not a true Northerley fan if you're named after ANOTHER HORSE, but let's not go there... So it's Northerley and Starcraft 1 & 2 in the Cox? Does anyone know the full field?

Northerly didnt race as a ywo year old. The final field wont be out until the week before the race but will be something similar to this I imagine

Northerly
Grand Armee
Fields of Omagh
Natural Blitz
Starcraft
Private Steer (doubtful)
Zagalia

Starcraft is a gun and will win the cox as long as he keeps his mind on the job. If he isn't he will get beat. Curious, Starcraft, how could you hate SUNLINE? I could understand if you hated that overrated cat LONHRO, the sydney squib, but SUNLINE, please

I hate the big mares that you never even hear about until they take it all (all bart cummings work, mainly), plus any annoying greys (doreimus the DONKEY), and anything without a personality (ie Octagonal). Sunline was really ruining my enjoyment of racing, I couldn't help getting annoyed, luckily in came the schitzophrenic horse and little lonhro (picures all around my desk as we speak). I like all good chestnuts, though, and haven't seen a good one since Saintly / General Nediym. Hey, wasn't Bassie's Pride the prettiest horse ever? And Rough Habit.

doreimus wasnt a grey. How could you hate occy and sunline two absolute champs.

Here,Here, mav. If you hate the mighty mare, what does it take to love a horse?
Her wins at the Cox Plate are as good as i've ever seen, excepting maybe M+P.That was a great day at the Valley, but her wins were just breathtaking.

Stracraft, you would have loved Family Of Man, he's the best looking horse i have ever seen, and Mugs if you think Lonhro is over-rated it doesnt say much for the melbourne meow's that finished behind him in the Australian Cup after getting polaxed and still getting up to win... think their still eating whiska's !

Umrum, you've really got me curious, what did you ever see in Umrum? As far as my circle can remember, he only won a couple of races and was never big news...

Umrum was one of the gutsiest horses to race in recent memory. He raced on Toorak handicap/caufield guineas day 6 years in a row. He won two tooraks one at 40/1(thank you) and placed in another two. was placed behind greats like tie the knot, sunline, easy rocking(in the salinger beaten a lip after winning the toorak his previous start). He was an absolute certainty beaten behind Mr Murphy in a dubai R.C he also beat Gold Guru/. This horse was tough and talented. he just kept going around an running great races. He hardly ever ran a bad race, if he did he either ran a beauty his next start or he went out for a spell.

That is why this unheralded topliner is one of my favourites just behind the immortal equine champion Northerly.

cheers

Starcraft I am not going to rip you to much but unlike some people I don't just jump onto the next great thing to come around.

For your information I have followed Raw Instinct since very early in his 3yo year the first time I backed him he beat Cumbria in a protest at around 12-1 and have backed him every single start since.

So what if I chose to use Raw Instinct as my name does that mean that I don't love both of these horses. Aparently it does to you anyway.

I ask you now how long have you followed the horse????? had you even heard of it before the Debonair? probably not.

This is the best horse I have ever seen and I have said that for along time I know how much the horse means to me which sounds ridiculos that in the end is all that matters as far as I am concerned.

Ok I will concede the horse means nothing to anybody else but he was one of the first horses I really started to follow and for that reason alone he will always be one of my favourites but I will say that Starcraft has taken over that mantle for me for the simple fact that I don't think Raw will actually that much anymore anyway if even at all.

Thats the whole point GM. The melbourbe horses he beat are cats, in terms of talking about superstars. I mean he beat Delzao, who is just a good honest horse.
How did LONHRO go at the valley. He wasnt in the same stratosphere as Northerly when he won in the "Best Cox Plate" field ever assembled.
LONHRO was a top horse in Sydney, no arguments, but in his grand final in Melbourne, the COX plate, he was found wanting.

Hate to bring this up, then, but I distinctly remember it being Lonhro who placed behind Sunline & Northerly, so are you saying these horses are sub-standard? I don't really think you can bag Lonhro after his complete domination of all the horses racing at that time, maybe start redirecting your complaints at the person who retired Octagonal and get over it.

Dont want an argument but you'll find Lonhro was unplaced in that Cox Plate.
Im not saying Lonhro was no good. Any horse with his recors is a champ and Id love to own him but he cant be compared to Sunline, Northerly, Might and Power imo, thats all

You may be thinking of Viscount, Starcraft they wore the same colors. He was nearly a good thing beaten that day when squeezed between the two champs.

I'm not referring to the Cox Plate (I have another post trying to distinquish which race that was?) - I'm saying Lonhro was a placer around supreme quality, and he came into his own after that time. I don't think this is a highly competitive time for racehorses, and Starcraft is certainly the most dominant force out there. Consistency is the question, I'd really like to see him racing for a couple more years.
