Apart from Lonhro, the best finnishes I've ever seen in racing are Mr Tiz in some race back in the early 90's where he did this weird buck action then started running like a dog uphill and left them standing with acceleration they (or I) had never witnessed. Also, Kiwi in the 1982 Melbourne Cup did close to "the lonhro." I remember giving up on Super Impose after he got caught last in either the 2nd Epsom or Doncaster (I think) and he did that thing along the rails. Better Loosen Up in the Japan Cup was incredible.

I remember watching Adam and Mr Inocent fighting it out hammer and tong down the straight ..the 2 colts had there teeth barred and thier ears flat back just going at each other with the two jockeys fighting to keep them from going each other...i think it was the epsom or something i can't remember but Adam won by a whisker..
Also Private Steer in the Doncaster i think was just amazing..

also who can forget freemason and northerly fighting it out

BONECRUSHER and OUR WAVERLY STAR in the W.S.COX PLATE.
And with Bill Collins calling it.
My skin still crawls when I think about it.

I know what you mean, but I'm not sure that's quite the right expression. When something makes someone's skin crawl, isn't it supposed to be disgusting and repulsive???

well as a young boy i watched tulloch fight off sharply down the eagle farm straight in his last race, he carried 9st12lb , that was a beauty ,but the 1986 cox plate , bone crushers fight withour waverley star was a realheart breaker from the 800 to the line, it has been called the race of the century.

There was another beauty too at Flemington when Hyperno knocked off Salamander. And 2 great jockeys in Harry White and Roy Higgins.
Don't know what it was but I remember Higgins lost his cap covering.

Could have been a little race called the Melbourne Cup Mo. Hyperno just beat Salamander in 1979.

"Kingston Town can't win."

yes sportz, that was a beaut run one of the best of all time , but it was not really a fight down the srtaight, like a two horse war, like lord and tulloch etc but certainly a great finish to win 3 cox plates and win going away , beat grosvenor by about a length.

Hey Sportznut!
Remember that skin crawling thing I mentioned.
Well it just happened when I read your post about Kingston Town.
Who beat him in the Melbourne Cup?

Gurner's Lane. One of my biggest disappointments in racing is that Kingston Town never won a Melbourne Cup. If only Johnston hadn't gone quite so soon.

Funny how the most memorable wins are in stayers races.
Anyone have memories of a great finish in a sprint.
Gee.I can't even think of a memorable win of one of my most memorable horses,Manikato!
Just remember watching him made me feel good.

I sawe HAREEBA win at Flemington down the straight six one day and Ive never seen a horse run with more perfect accelartion and it was poetry in motion. I said there was no way that horse could lose next start. Sure enough at 4's on it got rolled!!

Can you just remind me again Mugsy.
What is HAREEBA's main claim to fame.

Not much. He just went real quick.
He definitely won a few group 2's and may have even won a group 1 but at the time they thought he may be the next MANIKATO

This isn't gallops but the trots is still horse racing it was a Hunter Cup a couple of years ago Safe and Sound won by about a nose from Shakamaker and a wall of other horses off memory. The main reason I remeber it is because I had my biggest bet ever of Safe and Sound to win it and was ecstatic when he got up.

Moeee is definitely right with Bonecrusher & O.W.S being possibly the best finish of all time, but other than that (not already meantioned)...hmmmm...Bell Du Jour after missing the start in the slipper, then going straight through the field...Northerly beating Sunline in the cox ...too many great ones to narrow down to a few

Good Luck All

The finish we always end up going back to was when Northerly led in Lonhro and Sunline, but what race exactly was that? Just how often do the horses in the showdown (although Lonhro wasn't initiated yet) come in 1, 2 and 3? Beautiful!
