As a mad keen cricketer myself can't wait for this series to start tommorow.
Dont worry about the ASHES, the Gavasker/Border trophy is the biggest in World Cricket at the moment.
There was a picture of the pitch in the Herald/Sun today. Took about doctoring wickets, it has massive cracks in it already and looks like a 4th day pitch.
I got set on India at $4.75 to win. That would have to bet the best value bet i've had for a long time.
As a proud Vic, we may even get to see White play his first test in this match, but, in reality what a disgrace Macgill isnt there. Ive no doubt the Indians will play all three spinners.

Believe it or not, this was actually supposed to be the most pace-friendly wicket of the whole series, but they've sure put a stop to that. We'll probably just play the one spinner with Katich, Clarke and Lehmann as part timers.
I've backed India to win the series, but this is probably as good a chance as we've had to win there. Katich, Lehmann and Clarke are all good players of spin and they weren't there last time. Also Kasper is a good bowler in these conditions and he wasn't there last time either. I agree it's ridiculous McGill isn't even in the squad.

I agree that India vs Australia in India is a great contest. But I still think you are underestimating England. Despite what many complacent Aussies think, next year's Ashes series will be extremely tough to win and it WILL be between the number 1 and 2 teams in World Cricket. Think about that.

jesus christ, sportznut. a sensible reply regarding english cricket from an aussie ) i dont believe it!! but i do partly agree with you, it will be a thriller next year if everyone is fit to play. We now have a bowling attack that is second to none when fit. We just need a spinner with top quality, giles is good (much better when he doesnt have to just defend and slow scoring rates) but to have someone like warne or kumble or singh would make us the real deal...
If you lot beat india though it cements this last 5 years as the greatest cricket team in history for me imho.
And when we beat you next year it will make us nearly as good.. heh heh
good luck against india, i think you will need it.

Thats what I love avout this forum. Its all opinions at the end of the day.
At the MOMENT, these are the number 1 and 2 sides in the world.
No doubt that the Poms are on the improve but I expect us to wipe the floor with them come the ASHES. Again just an opinion.

People tend to rate other teams only on how they play against their own team, because that is when you really take notice. India happen to play very well against us, especially IN India, but I think they're only 5th or 6th in the latest rankings.
England are definitely the 2nd best side based on performances against ALL nations, but as most Aussies rate them ONLY on how they play against us, it's no surprise they think they're hopeless. Some Australian fans may get a nasty shock next year if they underestimate them though. I get the feeling that unlike some past English teams, Michael Vaughan's team WON'T be intimidated by playing against us.

Can't remember the last time we won a test series against India in India. The Aussies will find it tough.

Does anyone know of a radio station covering this test?
Im looking for one that broadcasts on the internet, but just the name of your local station would help

ABC radio is broadcasting it, but I'm not sure if you can pick it up on the net.

Morrisey, how can you have the BEST bowling attack when you admit you don't have a top quality spinner?
I'd still take our attack over yours ANY DAY. (same as you, when fit)

Well, Clarke is doing pretty much as I expected he would do when he finally got to play his first test. A great innings so far. Katich again showed how good he is against spin and Gilchrist was just brilliant as per normal with 35 off 34!

Tip for Cricket punters!!
A sports bookmaker told me not long ago, the best bet in Cricket is to lay the DRAW.
since then 3 tests have been played. All had results, even Eng v WI when a day a bit lost from rain.
eg, 1st Test Ind v Aus. Layed at $2.26 before game, after 1st day $2.44. Can back to get the Arb but no need yet. Weather forecast is good for the rest of the Test, 1st day only day where rain was expected.

Northerly: u name one spinner i mentioned in Ashley Giles and used that against my post, talk about selectively using them against me. I said he was good not rubbish, and that if we had a singh, kumble (who will tear yr boys to shreds in the second innings) or warne, or even macgill (criminal error by the aussie selectors against a man with a conscience) we would have the perfect bowling attack... Not the greatest bowling ever, but perfect for us, two genuine quick men in Harmison and Jones, good medium/fast pace in Flintoff/hoggard and Anderson and then a great spinner rather than agood one..
As others have said, just wait til next year... it shoudl begood lads, almost every ticket for the first 3-4 days has sold out.. iam back in the uk in february and will have to go to the scalpers i think... england against the aussies in cricket is secodn to nothing for me.. and i am a confirmed football fan.
hope you win against india, dunno why you striggle over there against them so much... for such a talented cricketing country....

I wouldn't say we struggled over there last time... a freak innings from laxman and Dravid and a poor decision to inforce the follow on was the only diffrence to the result.
we would of learnt from that and the preperation for this series has been the most focused of any...including the ashes ..so i hope we haven't let those pomies under our gaurd.

I live just around the block from the local Football club which has Foxtel and a BIG screen TV. If I'm really desperate to watch something on Pay TV, I can go there.
Anyway, as I said, no surprise with Clarke. And Gilchrist is incredible. Other teams must hate seeing him come out at Number 7 with 11 centuries and an average of 53.5!

I bet on Australia to win the 2nd test.
On my Sportsbet account it says I lost my bet. Im pretty sure there wasn't a draw option. Can anyone confirm this?
This is listed in their terms and conditions:
53.1. In the event of a tie (i.e. where both teams are bowled out twice and have the same score), all bets to win on either team will be paid at half face value (i.e. half the win plus half the bet amount). Bets on the draw will be losers. This rule may vary for some domestic competitions.
53.2. At least one ball must be bowled for bets to stand, otherwise all single bets are void. However, if a match is officially abandoned (eg due to dangerous pitch conditions) then all undecided single bets on the match are void and bets refunded while affected multiple bets will be recalculated excluding that leg.
Any help???

I'm pretty sure there would have been a draw option in the betting. Which bookie was it and what were the odds you got on Australia?

It was http://www.sportsbet.com.au
and the odds were:
· India v Australia – Head to Head – Australia 1+ @ 2.40

If you bet before the test and got $2.40, then I'm sure there must have been a Draw option available. Bad luck. I think many would have lost money thanks to the rain.

I am not sure if I understand you correctly.
BUT, you are aware that a DRAW and a TIE are not the same thing aren't you.
A DRAW is where there is no result, eg; the game was washed out in the 4th innings as it was in the 2nd test.
A TIE is when both teams end the game having scored exactly the same amount of runs and both teams have completed both their innings which means they are both bowled out twice.
The 2nd Test was a DRAW it was not a TIE.
Hope that helps.
