the forum doesnt seem to be very gossippy lately.
isnt there anything worth talking about.
like the flemington problems on saturday of ulysses and sir pentire.
cant talk about jockeys here but that inside rail position a couple of horses back coming round the turn is a well known trouble spot.

Why can't you talk about jockeys in here

thanks for a comment.
the reason i dont talk about jockeys is that it seems to imply criticism regardless of victim of circumstance, good intentions, reliance on luck etc .
in the case of alinghi which was a wonderful win and ride. often damien gets caught on the inside at flemington as did the horses i mentioned above.
i wonder at the risks taken in this type of riding.

I was on Alinghi at the short odds and i was very worried coming into the home turn. I think Ollie was very lucky he got that gap. I always believe when your on a short priced fave it doesn't matter if they cover a little extra ground racing off the fence as long as they get a clear run. Elvstroem wa also very lucky to squeeze between Northerly and Zazzman in the straight.

Jockeys can be talked about provided it is fair and reasonable comment with evidence provided for a comment and provided there is no potential defamation involved. It is not acceptable to accuse a jockey of deliberately losing etc.. That is defamatory.

Unfortunately as we've had in the past, a small minority ruin things by coming on here and posting all sorts of unfounded and unsubstantiated accusations. Which is just not on.

Topsy,

what is it about the rides on Sir Pentire & Ulysses that you didn't like?

Sir Pentire drew well, so the rail was no surprise. He was under pressure at the 300m, came off the rails and held ground but didn't exactly look unlucky.

Ulysses drew 2, so almost a certainty to be on the rails and after last couple of runs in Melbourne where he struggled probably the best place for him. The 1800m looked like it would suit on his Adelaide form. Got out in plenty of time and if not for Count Ricardo's huge finish he wins. I thought the ride was ok and I think he'll go okay over further as well.

i dont think i criticised the rides other than they seemed to be held up as a lot of horses seem to be on the flemington turn and into the straight.
what i am commenting on is that there is a heavy reliance on luck in races like this and seems to me to be high risk backing horses with chances in these races.
ulysses may have got a break if he had got clear sooner.
probably sir pentyre could have been placed if he had got clear.
as a punter horses on the inside at flemington are very risky and you are betting on more than the horses and jockey's a bility .
