Great news I have had a bet on him already but it wasn't until the final field was announced so if he was scratched I would have gotten my cash back but it would have been a crying shame for this horse not to be in the cup.

IMO he is the now the horse to beat because obviously they are of the opinion that this horse has a chance on the track the way it is and with more taing forcasted Irish eyes could be smiling today.

I saw Vinnie's last race in Ireland. He has never gone better,he won the race as he liked! The going was on the easy side of good that day.I'd want similar ground today.

The Flemington track is not flint hard today like it was for Vinnie last time. Dermot says the horse is tentative on hard tracks, and has confirmed the horse will run after walking the track early this morning.

At 10am the skies are clear and sunny, but the forecast is for afternoon showers (can't see it at this stage, but it is Melbourne).

The important thing is that even if there is no further rain and the track dries out a litte, the sting is out of it.

Go Vinnie Go!

Well as it turned out his was the horse to beat the difference is he covered about 4000m while Makybe covered the minimum of 3200m just a huge run but it doesn't do me any good when they run 2nd. I wish they would cease to use the damn useless european jockeys say whatever you like these guys are friggin hopeless.

Congrats to Makybe though I had a big win on her last year and I must admit that if I didn't want to grab hold of one P.Smullen and drag him across red hot coals it probably would have been more enjoyable to have seen her do it.

Swap the runs, swap the result. Just a massive run by a magnificant animal. Paddy Smullen doesn't think the run would've changed the result, of course it would've you cant say covering that much extra ground and still going down by about 1.5l wouldn't change anything. Great win by the mare but she had all the favours.

Makybe Diva went through the worst going and was eased down on the last 50m, I don't think Vinnie Roe would of won had he been ridden closer to the rail. And if he did, who's to say that he could've handled being surrounded by other horses as European horses aren't used to racing that way.

He had his chance.

Stop talking from your pockets.

Like I said Notherly Congrats to Makybe Diva she deserved it but how the hell can you say that being closer to the rail wouldn't have helped him that is ridiculos.

The 2 best horses in the race fought it out and it was a great race atleast by those 2 anyway the rest left a bit to be desired.

"Makybe Diva went through the worst going and was eased down on the last 50m".

Dont think this statement has much validity as the rail looked just as good as where Vinnie was, Fonome got beaten a lip by two v g horses with a rails run the next race.

"I don't think Vinnie Roe would of won had he been ridden closer to the rail. And if he did, who's to say that he could've handled being surrounded by other horses as European horses aren't used to racing that way".

Dont know how you think they race in Europe, do they all get their own lane?. Horseracing entails being surrounded by other horses of course he would've handled it.

"He had his chance.

Stop talking from your pockets".

I make no bones about talkiing from my pockets i think this whole forum is based around people talking from their pockets, ( How much did you have on Makybe anyway Northerly).

The fact is he covered much, much more ground then the winner but wasn't beaten all that far. I'm sure if Makybe was given the same run Bossy would cop just as much if not more criticism.

What a load of crap...he lost end of story...he might have covered more ground but that was the jocks fault...if it hadn't of rained he may not have even been that close and there may have been another winner...it was a good result all round except for the bookies...and we don't mind hurting them once and awhile

Well said Shaun. If the rain never came Makybe Diva still would of been there, no so sure about Vinnie Roe. The best horse won.

Mr Ed,
Yes I did back Makybe Diva BUT I also had the trifecta, so had Vinnie Roe won I would of won a lot more from the reversal of the first 2 places than I won on Makybe Diva.

So there you go.

Not talking from my pockets.

Intersting to see how Makybe Diva goes overseas. I'm guessing connections would be over the moon if she's even half as succesful as Vinnie has been over there.

and i agree swap runs and Makybe loses. everyones just to emotional to see it how it was. Shocking ride and you can bet if that was boss you'd be bagging him relentlessly.

People saying Makybe Diva is a better horse than Lets elope RIDICULOUS ! maybe a better 2 miler but not a better horse.

IMO she is the best 2 mile horse I have seen that was trained in this country for her to do what she has done is an amazing effort. Will be interesting indeed to see how she goes in a race like the Arc I would be surprised to see her win a race like that but it would be great and it might get some credibility for our stayers over here which right is lacking.

Wouldnt it be great if we took a team of horses over there.
Makybe Diva
Grey Song
(poor horse cant win anything over here so he might as well..likes the wet)
Zazzman
(seems the type of horse that suits there type of race pattern ..likes to lead and grind away and also cost me and half the country the trifecta so i just dont like him anymore)
Hard to get
( no point staying here they'll find some other donkey out there to ballot him out..)

I love Zazzman. He was the only reason I came out in front on the Trifecta. Had Elvstroem ran 3rd I reckon I would of barely broke even.
I had 3 trifectas (Half units = $198 total for the 3) that make it so if any 2 of the 3 horses I selected run a place then I get the Tri. If all 3 run places then I get it 3 times.
Vinnie Roe, Makybe Diva, Distinction

paid $1256.55 for a half unit.

It's always nice to hypothesise about who would have won had there been a different scenario. Delzao would have won the race if every other horse had to give it 1000 meters head start.

At the end of the day, I think Makybe Diva was the best horse in the race (and yes I had money on Vinnie Roe as well). If you see the way Makybe Diva quickened with about 100 - 200 meters to go and put 2 lengths on Vinnie, only great horses can do that over a 3200m distance. At the finish she was also eased down on the line.

Congrats to her for creating history, after all, it's performances like her's that have made this race so great for so many years.

How can a horse that has won 3 of her last 18 starts be called the greatest mare of all time??

Won 2 Melbourne Cups I hear you say. So did Think Big and Rain Lover. Both carried 2.5kgs or more than MD in their second win so equivalent weight carrying efforts counting the mares allowance. Go find me a racing person who puts RL or TB in their top 25 of all time. You won't.

She is good at what she does - very good. But one dimensional. Let's see her win a 1400m Group One WFA first up in the Autumn and win the Aust Cup by 3.5 lengths under a grip.

Let's Elope still the queen.

Northerly

Who said that she was better than Let's Elope??
I haven't heard anyone say it. I'm not qualified to comment, just wondering why you are going on about it.

Its been talked about in other forums plus the Media ever since she won. Bart Sinclair anounced it as well.
