Hey Sportznut.I was feeling very distressed last week due to a damning email from Management.
But I'm back in good spirits and still picking winners and looking forward to posting the Oaks meeting.

Ahh no Chuck. That was just for the Melbourne Cup. If you don't have the time to look at the other races, just sit it out today and wait for Saturday.

sportznut, have to point out you've bent the rules and set a precedent with our mate Mo.

sportznut
4th November 2004, 09:49 PM
Yes I did. Well, it WAS a good tip, so I originally thought perhaps I could credit Moeee with the win but penalize him $40 for the tips he didn't give. But I realise that doing that is not fair to everyone else in the competition and we really must stick strictly to the rules. So I'll go back and put Moeee back on his total from Tuesday.

Sorry Mo, rules is rules.

I certainly would not have expected any special treatment regardless of circumstances. Could argue different tips all together if posted early in the day. But that's not really the point. Cheers sportznut.

It's been a bit tricky sometimes with this comp, because there have been some occasions where tipsters have had the wrong number of races, the wrong amount of money, left out the feature race, bet place instead of win etc etc.

I think perhaps we should think about a rule change or two next time so maybe tipsters could have more flexability in the number of tips and also the bet types.

Northerly

Nah, too much flexibility of where we can bet.
Should ONLY be races in the Carnival , (eg Melb Spring or Syd - Autumn) not Adelaide, Brisbane or Kalgoorlie and we all have to pick in the same races and bet the same amount.
That is a level playing field.

Northerly
4th November 2004, 11:11 PM
Also, this would make it a lot easier for Sportz & Shaun (or whoever) to keep the results.

And I wonder how many people have actually put in tips EVERY day? I'm struggling in 16th, but at least I've been in every day.
It should be manditory. And a better way would be to go on Returns not Profit then the people who don't tip can't get any advantage against us mugs who pick 5 losers and clock up -$50 (which I've done a few times)

sportznut
4th November 2004, 11:37 PM
Yeah, it would really make it a lot easier if everyone tipped in all the same races. I think we could certainly look at doing that next time.

Anyway, we'll keep the rules as they are now for the last two weeks of the comp.

Northerly
4th November 2004, 11:47 PM
that's for sure, just making a suggestion for next time.
And it is called the SPRING CARNIVAL tipping comp. Not the 1MWLY Comp.

Shaun
5th November 2004, 12:33 AM
Gees you meen i have to survive 2 more weeks....thats going to be tough they have me in thier sights

Seeker11

My suggestions for the next big tipping comp (Autumn carnival I suppose) are as follows:

(1) I think that its OK that we can select from any race meeting as that gives those that have special knowledge of racing in say WA, SA and QLD a chance. As long as the races are Metropolitan and are on UNItab and keep the feature race

(2) Do not allow any changes to tips once a participant's first selected race has begun. The forum keeps a record of edits so that should be OK.

(3) Perhaps to avoid issues of time discrepancy we need to set a half hour limit prior to a participant's first race selection to enter that week's comp, or to make changes prior to the commencement meaning if you first selection is at Race 2 at 1pm the latest you can enter or update you selections is at 12:30pm etc

(4) I agree that the competition ladder should be based on returns and not profit as this will help us that competed the whole way through the comp. This means that we could either keep or dump the scratchings carry-over.

(5) I think that we could allow E/W betting (I had a pretty good comp selecting placegetters that earned me nothing due to the win only rule)

I want to congratulate SportzNut and all those that have assisted with rule creation and policing and calculating the ladder after each round. Despite all the issues this has continued to be a successful competition run by the participants even though only pride is at stake.

That's a joke Northerly. This comp started out so people could see where they stand roughy amongst the punters on here. Doesnt matter if you bet in kalgoorlie Bong bong or dapto. You're just filthy that i got a winner in kal at good odds and it was my best bet that day.
