View Full Version : Best odds on Makybe Diva?

Did anyone get great odds about Makybe Diva by betting early?

I don't like to bet REALLY early. I prefer to wait until just before the Caulfield Cup and then have a go. This year I backed Makybe Diva the night before the Caulfield Cup and I got $12. About 24 hours later after her great 2nd, she was about half that price!

Congrats sportz
You must be the luckiest bloke i know
$12!!!!!!!!!!
My wife wanted to back Zazzman for a place and i told her it had no hope so now im nearly in the doghouse because it paid $32
for a place
From now on I reckon Sportz should publicly broadcast all prepost bets whether it be on racing afl whatever.I also remember you saying you backed Port Adelaide at $7.50 and Lions at $3.80 and then they end up in the grandfinal.
I backed DISTINCTION about 6 times and got odds ranging from $13-$21 but it only finished 6TH
Cheers

Rabbitz,

It wasn't that brilliant, because she wasn't the only one I had. I also backed Vinnie Row and She's Archie at the same time, so I got 1st, 2nd and last with 3 bets.

Even though the odds were shorter today, I backed up again on Makybe Diva and Vinnie Roe because I was pretty confident one of the two would win with rain expected

Actually Rabbitz, I am kicking myself a bit, because I liked Elvstroem a LOT in the Caulfield Cup and I could have had the double but I decided against it.

Well done Sportznut.
Getting $12 on Caulfield Cup Eve.
Funny,2 months ago I could only get $11

Just goes to show not to bet too early.

Yeah, I don't like betting 2-3 months out. Too much chance for things to go wrong.

I started trying this idea in 2001 when I got Ethereal at $18 the week before she won the Caulfield Cup. I think she ended up paying about 9 dollars on the day. I didn't do any good in 2002, but that didn't matter too much because Media Puzzle was my big bet on the day. And last year I was VERY confident about Makybe Diva but I didn't get a big advantage there because I got $10 and she paid about 9 on the day. Being a pretty cautious punter, I've never been one for taking cups doubles, but I might have to start because in 3 of the last 4 years, I would have won. I could have got around $50 for this year's double.

my wife made me back zazzman for a place for her i think because it was number 12.
i will have to remember that selection method.

(its the same day as her birthday)

Yeah, great system! Wonder what the people do whose birthday is from the 25th to the 31st. Add the two numbers together???

I was lucky enough to get $19.50 on Makybe Diva on the 1st of August on Betfair.
If I hadn't been so greedy I could of got $21, but I tried to get $23 then missed the $21 and had to take the $19.50.
A friend got $23, late July on BF.

I did back a total of 10 runners back in August, 7 of them ran yesterday. Unfortunately the rain put paid to a few of their chances (Pacific Dancer @ $60, Hugs Dancer @ $28, Mummify @ $42) and She's Archie (@ $65) got injured.

Layed off most of my risk so had none of my selections won I would only lose a small amount.
Almost like a free bet.

Betfair ? How can that be?
Once they know you are from Oz doesn't that stop you betting on Australian races?

only if you live in NSW or WA.

This is the 1st year I've done this and I made money on both Caulfield Cup & Melb Cup.
Back them, then Lay them to reduce your risk.
Only won $150 on Caulfield Cup (with no risk on the day) & $550 on Melb Cup (risk of $36). Next year will bet bigger now I know what I'm doing.
This year all I did was put $20-$40 on horses and then lay them when the race was about 2 weeks away or whenever I felt comfortable, when MOST not all, had shortened (eg She's Archie, backed @ $65 for $15, then layed @ $9 for $75)

Give it a go next year.
