We believe 30 minutes is ample time to check one's post for errors and to then correct. This change was necessary.
Some posters days or weeks after posting made a habit of deleting large numbers of their posts, basically destroying the readability of those threads. That did nothing positive for the forum.
It also looked terrible to see posts with the entire content wiped and "edited by..." at the bottom. We then had to spend considerable time and cost in locating and removing those threads.
If we even allowed 36 hoiurs to edit posts, it will result in us having to continually check posts up to 36 hours old to see that the content has not been deleted. If deleted, then the post needs to be manually removed by us and maybe even the thread removed. This takes time. It would cost us thousands of dollars a year. (Just $20 a week makes $1,000 a year.)
Note: There are plenty of forums which do not permit any editing to posts.
