Filante,

I live in Mackay and let me tell you with the weather we're getting, tomorrow's meeting must be in some doubt. It will certainly be a rain affected track anyway.

Gday Sportz,

Ah what a place....... I was going with a woman from Mackay for a couple of years... she is still there, is a journo and writes for the Mercury as well as a couple of their stable papers... I used to love going out to the Harbour thru the day and catching those big trevally off the walls.... ah I'm getting all msty eyed at the memories.... you live in a great place

Filante,

Do you have an opinion on Geelong Race 5? I like 2 Edgy Affair and 8 Governor Macquarie.

Here are my ratings for the race:
02 EDGY AFFAIR (48.5) $2.95
08 GOVERNOR MACQUARIE (47.0) $4.95
05 JIMINEZ (46.0) $6.75
01 SCOLD (45.0) $8.95
10 CASTAGNO (45.0) $8.95
07 TAKING CHARGE (43.0) $17.40

That looks pretty good to me. Certainly 2, 8 and 5 are the main chances. I like these third up horses, yet to win this preparation, that improve between 1st and 2nd up - 2 and 8 fit into that category - and 5 is fully wound up now after an ok win last start. You might also include 9, which Mayfield-Smith might have ready first up in a weak race like this (but that's just a guess on my part).

Yeah, thanks for that. Number 9 is certainly pretty short in the market, so I'll have to consider it.

Well, I considered it, but in the end, I was happy with my ratings. I backed the 2 and the 8 and took them in 'any2' bets with my other rated horses. Edgy Affair was a late scratching though, so I was left with just Governor MacQuarie, but he won pretty well. :)

Hey Sportz...did u get Yubi today ?? i didn't miss him today ..and thought he was good value...nice trifecta as well..
How are you going with your any2's ?? i haven't been convinced yet...but i have been playing with trebles and they have been very good to me..

Yeah, I only bet on two races today. R5 at Geelong and R8 at Ballina. I had Governor Macquarie and Yubi, so a good result.

Yeah, sometimes the divs for any2s can be awful, but sometimes they can also be unexpectedly good because of the smaller pools. I don't mind the security of not having to finish 1-2.

I must admit I should probably look at doubles and trebles again. Way back, over ten years ago, I used to take doubles and trebles all the time and I went okay, but for some reason, I just went off them. I've just had a look at last Saturday's races and I could have had the double in Bris, Syd, Melb & Adel and the treble in Adel. Two of my best winners on Saturday were Golden Weekend and Leg Irons. Well, they just happened to be the double races in Sydney. It paid $89.
