Welcome to the Wizard Cup tipping comp. Make sure you read the rules carefully please.

RULES

Everyone to have their tips in for the whole round before the first match.

Pick the team you think will win each game and also pick whether they'll win by 1-24 points or 25+ points. 1 point will be awarded for correctly picking the winning team. 2 points will be awarded if you also get the margin correct.

Pick the exact winning margin in the selected 'match of the week'
2 bonus points will be awarded to the tipster who gets closest to the actual winning margin in this match.

This Week's Games

Friday, 18 February
Collingwood v Richmond Telstra Dome 7:40pm
Fremantle v West Coast Subiaco 7:40pm

Saturday, 19 February
Western Bulldogs v Sydney Telstra Dome (Double-Header) 2:40pm
Hawthorn v St Kilda Telstra Dome (Double-Header) 6:10pm
Brisbane v Melbourne Cazaly Stadium 7:40pm

Sunday, 20 February
Kangaroos v Geelong Manuka Oval 2:40pm
Carlton v Essendon Telstra Dome 5:10pm

I've chosen Collingwood Vs Richmond as the Match Of The Week because it's the first game and we'll probably have a better idea of the teams for this game than some of the other games.

I'll just keep my legs together until Friday afternoon!

But I like your comp and the simple rules.

Sportz
17th February 2005, 04:53 PM
Okay, got it all sorted out now.

We'll keep the original margins of 1-24 and 25+.

Some bookies use 24.5 points in margin betting and some use 39.5 points, but I personally prefer 24.5, so that's what we'll stick with.

Thought you might say that!

Yes I can and I will.
Just so excited about the season and couldn't help myself.

And the Footy Comp thread appears to have moved!
Has it been banished to the salt mines of Siberia?
Can't for the life of me locate it!

The Punters Comp thread is now a 'sticky' thread at the top of the AFL forum.

No real need. Only goes for 4 weeks and we're just using this for a bit of practice really. However, when the Premiership starts, I'll probably ask for that comp thread to be made a 'sticky'.

No need to apologise Sportz!
Well done in your tipping.Consider yourself a top tipper considering the amount of work I put into my tips.
Don't know the actual margin, but I imagine it must have been 7 points.
Enough to get me 3 times $8.80 for my $6.
And a footy half-double of $20 for my $4
But I lost my 1/4 quad at $6

Sportz
18th February 2005, 10:48 PM
Yep. Collingwood won by 7. Richmond was actually in front for most of the last quarter until a late Collingwood surge.

moeee
18th February 2005, 10:55 PM
Yes Sportznut,I watched the delayed telecast, but was more concerned by the margin bracket rather than the actual margin.
My ratings had Collingwood by 27 points but I gave Richmond 18 points for the new coach and the motivation to win. That dropped the margin to 9 points.
Unfortunately I gave them a further 6 points because Buckley wasn't playing making my prediction 3 pts.
But I realize that my player ratings would have allowed for the fact that Buckley was out so I know better for next time.

Just thought of something!
Suppose Richmond wins by 2 points.Nearest tipster had Richmond by 18 points.Would I have been the most accurate?

Sportz
18th February 2005, 11:01 PM
I'm not doing any ratings until the real stuff comes around. I just thought that Collingwood were about 18-24 points better than Richmond and took a couple of goals off for no Buckley. So I thought they'd perhaps win by between 6 & 12 points. In the end I went with 10 pts.

Fremantle's leading by 7 at half time.

moeee
18th February 2005, 11:05 PM

No. Even though technically you would have been the closest, you have to pick the winning team to have a chance at the bonus 2 points.

moeee

No. Even though technically you would have been the closest, you have to pick the winning team to have a chance at the bonus 2 points.

How about Collingwood wins by 25.I tipped them by 24.I get a point for the win,but zero for the margin.Am I still in the running for the nearest tipster 2 point bonus?

Having a bit of trouble with that site at the moment, but you can always use this as a backup:

West Coast 16 in front now, halfway through the 3rd quarter. I'll be damn mad if the West Coast run away with this. Was originally going to tip them, but I was swayed by weight of money and opinion.

By the way, in accordance with the rules I'm using for the Super12 comp, I've decided that anyone who's good enough to tip the exact margin spot on will get a further two bonus points as well. Don't really expect that to happen a lot, but it's an extra incentive for everyone.

That seems to be what the Bookies are thinking.
I gave the Kangas a 6 point bonus for home ground and 3 more for wanting to win it more!
Otherwise it would have been Port by 8.
No value tonight for the Footy Comp.

It's not until you really analyze things close up that you realize things aren't as they seem!
Weagles by 16 points?.
Less 12 for travelling, and 4 for the wedding thing and 3 for Carlton wanting to win it more. And 3 for Dennis Pagan and 6 for what Juddy said last night on the footy show regarding the game is just part of the program warmup.

I've had a small bet at $2.50. They're now into about $2. They have to go on with it now in the real stuff. They weren't actually that far out of the 8 last year and it would only take a small improvement.
