Sportingbet had 2 options, Try scored in opening 7 minutes at $1.90, or 8th minute or later including no try for entire game at $1.90.

So as long as no one scores within the first 7 minutes which would be 7mins 59 secs i should win :)

Geez, so what was it??? When they scored the first try, they said it was the 8th minute. So what's the official result? Had 8 minutes been up? I assume this means that both you guys win??? :o

Yes. I was going to include the NBL, but for some reason, I've totally forgotten for the first 2 weeks. Anyway, I'll include it from now on till the end of our comp.

If I remember correctly, you then started to leave the Lions out of your betting which was a good move. And you also went away from all those high risk multis that you'd been putting on without success, and started looking at safer options.

Nah mate, pretty sure though that 7th minute starts at 8mins 0secs.

Don't you mean the 8th minute starts at 8mins 0 secs???

Anyway Testa, I think you're wrong there. I'm pretty certain that the 8th minute is any time between 7:01 and 8:00, and the NRL certainly lists the opening try as being in the 8th minute.

I emailed Sportingbet, but got no reply. Centrebet replied though and they said that it was the 8th minute.

So Testa, unless Sportingbet eventually replies and says something to the contrary, I'm going to count your bet as a winner.

We have a new leader!!! DP has hit the front narrowly. However, TheBookie's saved up one of his free bets, so he's probably got a slight advantage. There's still plenty of people in contention to win it which is good. Chuck's really going to have to pull something out of the bag though. :D

Personally, I've made a bit of a climb up the ladder thanks to the incredible generosity of the bookies on the Ashes series. Can you believe that Australia was favourite for every single test??? What Cricket were they watching?

If I'm going to have any chance, I need to be able to bet on the tennis! Is there any chance of having all ATP matches open for betting? If not, will we be covering the masters events at least?

Congrats on your climb back up the ranks

Don't sell yourself short. From what I've seen, you've certainly done well enough on the AFL this year to say you have a chance of winning this comp.

Betsy

Naah not really mate, Cousins seems to be the overwhelming favourite, however with players like Judd, Cox, Fletcher etc in the side, a lot of his votes may be shared with the rest of his team.

I'll only have a crack at the NBL if i get desperate mate.

Bad luck with your big multis, Kiwi and Goldmember. :o

Looks like a few people rated the Broncos a bit too highly. As I suggested ages ago, they're easily the most over-rated team in the comp. Even when they were 3 games clear, I didn't give them a chance of winning this year. They need a new coach and a few new players to breathe some life into them. On the other hand, the Tigers today played like just the Broncos used to. They're exciting!

IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ

Okay, well we're down to the final two weeks and it's getting pretty damn close.

I've decided that it's time to delete the 4 guys that haven't been playing the comp for a while and once again redistribute their funds evenly among the rest of us, so $184 gets added onto everyone's account.

Also, everybody now receives another 2 free $100 bets. Please note that these free bets can ONLY be used on the AFL Grand Final or the NRL Grand Final or both. You can use one free bet on the AFL GF and one on the NRL GF or you can use both bets on one Grand Final, it's up to you. But you can't use them on another game or another sport. Also remember that the free bets don't count towards your official number of bets for the comp. Testarossa, Moeee, Kiwi and Dr Ron still have to reach the minimum number of 50 bets.

With the additional money in everyone's account, here's the updated leaderboard:

Funny thing is I don't reckon he will even show up here.

Just simply backed West, Cousins & Pavlich to add $8 on to my total. Surely he can't lose??? Look at how well he went last year. He's gone just as well if not better this year. If you reckon Gilbee can beat him, then perhaps you should have backed him for the top 5 or something, because I reckon West will probably be up there somewhere.

You still have one free bet left over and it's one from earlier in the comp, so you don't have to use it on the NRL Grand Final. You can use it on the NBL or something if you wish. Everyone else has to use their free bets on the Grand Final.

Sportz, are your premier league ratings going to make a reappearance this season? I found them very useful.

Sportz
28th September 2005, 08:03 PM
Hmmm, not sure. I'll have a look at it and see what I can come up with for you. Might wait until the NRL Grand Final's out of the way though.

What I did last year was purely experimental, and they certainly started off VERY well, but gradually went backwards, so I decided to stop doing them. Might be able to come up with something for this year though. We've now had enough games to make some sort of sense of it all.

Chuck
28th September 2005, 08:25 PM
anyone with a free bet left can win this thing.... either by picking the exact margin or outside 1st try scorer in the NRL grand final....

1st try scorer odds usually range from $11.00 to $21.00 with the backs, and anywhere to $151.00 with the forwards...

The exact margin for the cowboys game last week paid $201.00, and with a $100 bet your balance becomes upwards of $20000, surely enough to win it.....the basic margin are usually over $25 so that would win it as well....

come on goldmember, lets see if we can do it for the underdogs!:D

Sportz

sportz, i was wondering this morning if anyone having a $100 free bet could have multiple options in the one bet, trying to stage a GRAND final finish,

EG:

w/tigers try into w/tigers 1-12 into M.O.M , or 1st tryscorer into a ht/ft double, or something similar to that, it just crossed my mind as was a incentive for us cellar dwellers to have one last ditched effort in a big way.

I understand if you think its not fair to others who dont bet on the NRL G/F and if its techincally not in the rules, but i thought i would ask ? if not, i'll have to think really hard at something else.

Sportz
29th September 2005, 05:24 PM
No. I'm sorry, but unless any of the bookies actually have special bet types like that, then I'm afraid you can't. As it is, the bookies won't usually permit multis where one of the legs affects the outcome of another leg, so I'm sorry, but you can't do that.

With the AFL, Centrebet has that option where you can pick the first goalkicker and either team under or over 24.5 points. If one of the bookies has an option something like that on the NRL, then you can certainly use it, but otherwise, your free bet must be just a single bet.

I'll let you include the Premier League game in your bets, but you can't use FootyTab though. It's got to be one of the regular fixed odds bets.

Wow!!!!!!

Talk about leaving it till the last minute. Literally!!! The very last minute of the NRL Grand Final and Kiwi's bet of Todd Peyton to score the last try has seen him come from the clouds to snatch victory!!! Much like his namesake in the Melbourne Cup back in 83!

Haha, well done kiwi - I knew someone would pull off the unthinkable with everyone having a go at huge longshots.

Im sure I speak for all participats when I say a big thankyou to Sportz for running the comp. I can't imagine trying to keep up with everyones bets while keeping up-to-date records of it all. Thankyou Sportz and well done kiwi

By the way, I should have also said well done to Discipline pays, Betsy and TheBookie. I don't think Kiwi will mind me saying that despite his win, those 3 tipsters were probably the most consistent punters throughout the competition.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for having a go. It was good fun! :)

Thanks guys, and a special thanks to Sportz for another great Comp.
Betsy Discipline Pays and especially The Bookie for consistant AFL tipping deserved it more.
At the end of a furious game i just thought a forward at huge odds might crash over and so it proved:D

Moderators,

You can make this thread "unsticky" :) now, because I'll be starting the 2006 punting comp soon. As I'm going to include more than just Football, I'll post it in the Gambling Forum.
