Here is a system that I found on the Internet which I have adapted to Australian conditions.

Rule 1: Operate on non-handicap races except for maidens.
Rule 2: Consider only the pre-post favourtite.
Rule 3: The contender must have raced within the last ten days (inclusive).
Rule 4: The race must have ten or less runners.
