Where do you guys get acceptances for upcoming meetings on the net?

Up until a couple of days ago I used to download the acceptances for meetings from OZRACING. They had all the upcoming meetings in nice easy HTML which I could read into my data base with no trouble. Now they've moved all their info to a new site which is wrapped up in Javascript or something and I can't read it any more.

If anyone knows of any sites that have all the upcoming meetings acceptances with jockeys and weights, etc I'd be grateful of the addresses. The more the better (tee hee) so I can find the easiest to download.

Thanks guys.

i was using the racing services bureau site, but they changed it today. was well presented info

now you can't copy and paste any info from the new site, which royally cheeses me off. now i'll get mine off the individual race club's sites.

Royally cheeses me off as well.
I used to copy and paste the fields into word, complete with the grid lines which allowed me to add columns to the table for comments etc.
The only way I can get it onto my computer now is to email the page to myself, save it as text, copy and paste it into word.
Trouble is there is no gridlines and the info is just a jumble.
They must have known I was getting something useful for nothing.

For all NSW racing acceptances I have found racing NSW site best - Daily diary. Acceptances are usually available a few days prior to event.

Thanks for your help guys, I'm sure I can find something there that works for me.

Brave Chief and Imagele - It may only be explorer that stops you copying and pasting. I tried an old version of OPERA - a browser I downloaded for free some time ago. It loads the new site down and allows you to copy and paste from it.
Don't tell RSB or they'll likely nobble that too.

Why the Racing services bureau or anyone in the racing industry would want to stop punters from getting access to information in a useful form is beyond me.
We use this information to facilitate gambling on their product, thus keeping them in business.
The changes they have made to the acceptances format have effectively put me out of business.
The information in it's current form is no different to having the fields in front of you from the daily papers.
The old format allowed me to delete scratchings, include missing riders and replacements and record observations on past performances relative to the chances of the horse in today's event.
It enabled me to record finishing positions etc., for future reference.
I am back to using a pen and paper and my computer is next door to useless.
So much for technology.

For my purposes, I preferred the old method also. They now seem to be covering every aspect of noms, acceptances, etc, in every state.

Works ok, but just takes longer than before for me to organise. I'll get used to it.

Email RISA for help, if the new format will not operate on your computer.

Hi Imagele!
Just as a matter of interest I logged on the RSB site to see the problem but! using Firefox as a browser. It allowed me to highlight the fields and copy them, paste it into Excel and they come up formatted one item/cell.
Hope it helps!
I used to get the fields a few days in advance to find double nominations.
Cheers

Can you highlight and paste these fields into word in a table format that allows you to work within cells?
I am not familiar with the workings of excel.
I have installed Opera and find I can highlight and copy but when pasted, there is no table.

Unfortunately No!
I don't have Opera, used Firefox, but if you can copy, it should work.
You do not have to know anything about using Excel only how to open it. Once you copied your fields just right click in a field in Excel (preferably top left) and paste. After that just treat it as a doc. I don't use Excel myself I am working with Access database. This change has stuffed me up a bit as well. I can write a programme to extricate the info I want but that's not the point, I can't see any reason for the change and if anything they (RSB) would have alianated a lot of people by this move.
Cheers!

Thanks Iomaca.
I'll have to see what I can work out with excel.

If you are able to copy and paste the items i would do it to a plain text document then import that document to excels you will be able to seperate the items in to culumns this way

I have been playing around with excel.
The main problem seems to be not being able to write comments in the cell containing the horses name. I know comments can be added but they seem to remain hidden until clicked upon.
Under the old system with word I could change the font size and abridge trainer's and jockey's names to provide ample space in the table with added columns.

You can do all that in Excel as well, please spend a few hours learning how to use it. You can write anything in any cell and you can also format it, make it bold and add colours etc. I am by no means an expert on Excel and don't use it but I tell you once you get the hang of it you will ask yourself why you did not use it before. There is just so much more you can do you could not do in word.
Beleive me it's easy.
Shaun would probably the one to ask about help on Excel.

Oh Happy day,

I've just been on to the RISA site and the ozracing page with the acceptances is back on line. They must have heard us complaining - I didn't know we had so much influence.

Kenny
The situation reverted back to normal about 2 days ago
I don't know what the heading was on the RISA site but it now says the fields are proudly made available by the RSB.
If the fields could be legally printed out for private use or saved on the computer by other methods, I could not see the point in obviating the ability to copy and paste, which for me was the quickest and simplest method.
At least the whole episode forced me into learning a bit about Excel and provided the opportunity to experiment with different browsers, namely Firefox and Opera.
The latter browsers have their advantages but cookie blocking causes problems with some sites.
Firefox's pop up blocking is a bonus.

I doubt the change was purely to thwart people copy and pasting things, I think the boffins that make web sites like to justify their existence by "improving" things now and then. The new site had a general bit of java script in it that disabled the regular right click of the mouse (for all pages I think). Some smart arse programmer no doubt thought it was a clever idea to stop people getting into his web page.
My fear is that they are just putting the old page back while they fix up some little bug in their new pages at which stage it'll reappear.

Imagele

You may well be right with your latter point Kenny.
Time will tell.
My question is, why would the racing industry want to thwart punters efforts in gaining useful information unless they want them to stop gambling on their product.?
I agree with your comments about smart arse programmers justifying their existence.
Why fix it if it ain't broke.

We have to remember too that the RSB is a money making venture. Their results would be a wonderful thing if they at least had the lengths from the winner. Of course you would have to pay them for that information. Some states (NSW and WA for e.g.) you can get full results of races with lengths from the winner, barrier, etc for free in a nice downloadable form. Victoria as far as I can see rely on RSB to issue their results and in the form they appear they are as good as useless to a form analyst. If anyone else knows of a convenient outlet for Victorian results I'd be pleased to hear it.
