Hi guys,

Have a question regarding fixed odds and scratchings and subsequent fluctuations.

Yesterday, as the rain fell and I had a fair idea that Alinghi would be scratched, I slapped down a certain amount on Ike's Dream at $6.50.

Alinghi was scratched as was No. 6, Timbourina i think? I checked this morning and Ike's Dream went into $4.50. 'Ha on a good thing here' I thought, and even more so when it wound into $3.50 at the close of Fixed Odds betting.

Ike's Dream won, and when i went to collect it was only paying $3.35. So I asked the operator (who didn't really know what the story was) and after ringing somebody higher up and consulting them I was told that after Alinghi and Timbourina were scratched odds fluctuated?

So maybe that is the procedure I'm not sure. But even so once they were scratched and Ike's Dream wound into $4.50, shouldn't that of been the odds given? Or even $3.50 which it CLOSED at? Have I been dudded here? And is there a way to make sure your odds dont change when placing your bet?

Anyway if anybody could clear any of that up for me it'd be greatly appreciated.

It's a joke, it happens quite often and no there is nothing you can do about it, i don't know how they work it out as there is no official deduction, they must just take out what they like.

Just another blatant ripoff by the TAB.
The sad part is that because the average punter couldn,t really give a continental it allows these legal crooks to treat us with the contempt they figure we deserve for not speaking up in the first place.
Years of punter apathy has allowed this to happen and my best guess is that it will become more outrageous as the years progress.
i.e A 20 % takeout etc etc
Cheers.

ps.Go bookmaker and preferably at the track where you can compare bookie /tote prices .

Mecurial, you were never on at the $4.50 or $3.50.

You were on at the $6.50 and there would have been a 50 cent deduction for Alinghi alone I'd imagine.

At the very least they should be able to inform you of the deductions you had to suffer. It's common courtesy.
