Is Nick Riewoldt still a kid.I think they have heaped way too much pressure on him.ANY THOUGHTS ANYONE?

He is a similar age to when Wayne Carey became captain. Also has similar form to Wayne Carey.

Yeah he is young but he has played plenty of games.....

Another question to be asked is what people think about the treatment he received after hurting his shoulder.
I think the intent shown by those 2 should wipe them out for at least a couple of weeks.... Especially the second bump....

What do you mean?

moeee

What exactly do you think they should be charged with?

BJ
26th March 2005, 05:06 PM
How about charging, intent to cause serious injury.....

The ball was 100 metres away and he was in the hands of the trainer with an obvious injury to his shoulder.
Surely you are not suggesting that what happened is allowed?

It seems he already had a serious injury and should have left the ground.
And if you've ever played football you would know that people bump people all the time.
Don't worry about what the camera shows.
If you pay that charging you won't have any players left on the field.

BJ
26th March 2005, 05:18 PM
Oh, I am sorry, I didn't realise that you had examined him before and after...

The point is that he was injured, it just happened and was about to leave the ground...

If he was being helped off by the trainers and somebody shirtfronted him, you are saying that that is alright...?
What about on the stretcher....?

And yes I have played football, and I have never bumped anybody that was obviously hurt....

The point is he was obviously hurt, and 2 Lions players tried to guarantee that he couldn't play out the game. He was 100m away from the ball and should not have expected contact. That is charging. Read the rules...

OK
I give in.
My point now is that I picked 2 winners so far.

Well congratulations. Betting all these years and you are up to 2 winners. You will be a millionaire in no time....
In future, if you have an opinion, give it without the personal attacks....

2 out of 2 ain't bad in anyones language.
Apologies if you saw some personal attacks.
Just wouldn't like to see the game turn into basketball, where,as Jack Nicholson said,"he's not to be touched".

I dont think he can be considered like Wayne Carey because Wayne wouldnt have gone off crying and would have give some back.Dermie NEVER would have gone off crying .Dermie would have played the game out .THAT is stuff a captain is made of. At 22 your not mature enough to be captain and Nick as great a football talent he is ,is not captain material .........but watch this space you never know

He was not in the hands of the trainer. He went back to his position ready to get back into the play. Players who are out there in their position can expect to be treated by the opposition as if they are 100% fit. Are you suggesting that if the ball came down they should just leave him alone and let him mark the ball unopposed. As Nick said yesterday he didn't know the extent of his injury so how should the Brisbane players be expected to?

What a bunch of GIRLS, there was nothing in that, just a bit of a bump with the shoulder, why dont they put on a tutu, some slippers and lipstick , fair dinkum , no wonder the leaguies laugh at that sport !

Ridiculous comment Marko. He had a broken collarbone. No player in the AFL would have played that game out

Excuse me mate but I distinctly remember Dermie doing just that but dont remember which game it was.He had some major injury and played on.

He had bruised ribs in a grand final after being poleaxed at the opening bounce by Mark Yeates of Geelong and played on and kicked a great goal.
No one is questioning Dermie's courage but if you think that Riewoldt is soft for going off with a broken collarbone you're a clown.

I've got a heavy bag hanging from tree in my backyard.
Even it has copped less punishment than Riewoldt!
Your point is wrong!

In your opinion.I would prefer to have Hamill as my captain.I wasnt saying Nick shouldnt have gone off Im saying he didnt have to cry about it or at least not show it thats all

i think some of u are under-estimating the pain a broken collar bone can give you.

what was the final wash up ...was the collarbone the only injury or was there other shoulder damage as well and for what its worth ....IMO if your on the paddock and standing you're fair game

haha, some of these posts are ludicrous - firstly, Riewoldts not soft - i think some of you guys are underestimating the pain of a broken collarbone.

The actions of the two Lions is acceptable if Riewoldt was playing on, having not seen the match im not sure if he was moving back to his position etc, but from what i heard he told the trainer to leave him and started moving back to his position, if so, then fair enough the two tested him out, however if he was leaving the ground they should not have done what they did

In regards to his tears, its understandable that he would be upset, being his first match of the season as captain after a big preseason and then to get such a severe injury would be devastating. He would have been sitting there thinking the worst also, he might have thought he'd be out or half the season or something. Many players do have a cry after injuries however they arent in the public, so his tears should not be frowned upon, however, whether he should have gone down to the rooms is another question.

Anyway who really gives a toss whats done is done and lets get back to the footy, not debating over whether a player is a sook

Who said soft.AFL players arent soft.I think maybe I havent explained myself properly.I was stating in my opinion that Nick Riewoldt is not ready to captain
yet.The next superstar yes but I thought Hamill or someone like that for the next couple of years.

Surprised Robert Harvey didn't get the captaincy for potentially his last year.
