NZ 5-199 after one day.

Australia would be a bit disappointed with 299 runs in one day. Scoring only 199 would be totally unacceptable.

Lucky 13 for Ashes
By Michael Crutcher

AUSTRALIA'S touring squad to New Zealand is set to be rewarded with blanket inclusion in the Ashes party regardless of the outcome of today's final Test against the Black Caps. The 13 players who have blasted Australia within reach of another series win can expect to be named in the Ashes Test squad in nine days.

Reserves Brett Lee and Brad Hodge have not played in the New Zealand series and have again missed selection for today's third clash at Eden Park but the pair will be sent to England. Throw in reserve wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and Australian selectors seem to have 14 certainties for the touring party, which will number 16 or 17.

The last spots will be shared between spinners Dan Cullen and Stuart MacGill, all-rounder Shane Watson or South Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait. There is little chance of an old-style Ashes bolter being chosen for the five-Test series, starting in July.

Geez, I think most people would certainly consider Dan Cullen a 'bolter'. I would. This shows how much Pura Cup Cricket has dropped out of the limelight, because I have to admit that I'd hardly even heard of him, but I went and had a look at his stats and he's played 10 matches for SA this year taking 43 wickets at 30.

NZ 1st innings 292

Aust 219/4 at stumps on day 2.

Langer 6
Hayden 38
Ponting. 105
Martyn 38
Clarke 18 *
Gillespie 1 * (night watchman)

Australia trail the NZ 1st innings by 73.

3 days to play. Weather permitting

NZ $15.00
Draw $3.50
Aust $1.35

I heard that the weather was supposed to deteriorate in Auckland over the next few days. Might have to have a good look at the B.O.M. site I think as $3.50 on the draw is pretty tidy.
