I'd just like to ask everyone have you ever had a big win by mistake, by betting on the wrong horse, the wrong race etc?

I ask that because there was a situation like this today. For some reason the person who put up the RadioTab tips on the Unitab website made a big mistake in Oakbank R4. Tipster Terry McAuliffe actually made no.1 Prancelot a special in that race, but on the website, they incorrectly listed no.9 Windham Power as a special instead. Well, Windham Power ended up winning and paid $18!!! People who like to back these specials on the Unitab website would have got an $18 winner by mistake.

In the 2003 Melbourne Cup (you might have heard of this already) there was a guy who put in a $6 Box Trifecta. The girl cashing in his bet accidently put it in 111 times, but he won $3,000,000 or something enormous like that.

After a few ales in the afternoon I "backed" Jymcarew in the Canterbury Guineas instead of Outback Prince.

Hi Sportz
I once backed a horse and watched the race with the sound down, later in the day.Cursed my luck as the colours of my pick were running a long last and went outside to dig the garden.

Later rang the TAB and low and behold there was an extra $725 there.I had watched the wrong race my donkey had won at good odds in the next race.My kids laughed and jeared when i blew up watching earlier, but they were very interested in some of the winnings when i related my mistake to them.

Funny you say that Shaun I was at the local races one day and Waitwero Gold or however you spell it was racing in brisbane and was about 30-1 off memory I asked for the Melbourne race with the corresponding race number and horse number. well yes you guessed it when the bloke behind the counter handed me the ticket it was the brisbane race not melbourne wo I turned around and asked him to cancel that ticket and put it on in melbourne only to watch as waitwero gold went on to win by the smallest of margins and to make matters worse the horse i backed ran nowhere can't remember who it was off the top of my head though.

This happened just last Sunday:

You'll probably know by now that I love to include the outside barrier horse in my trifectas and things. Well, in the last race at Cranbourne, I did just that. Well I thought I did. I included no.3 Correct Omoondo in my trifecta, (even included it in tips on this forum) but then after I'd put my bet on and just as they were about to jump, I noticed that I'd actually made a mistake. It was only in the 2nd outside barrier. The real outside barrier horse was in fact no.7 Blue Collar Jack. Well, guess what. They were in the straight with about 150m to go and and Blue Collar Jack was leading and looking like a certain winner. Then all of a sudden the horse just veered off or something and threw the race away. Two of the favourites came in 1st and 2nd and yep, Correct Omoondo snuck in for 3rd ahead of Blue Collar Jack giving me the $383 trifecta. Weird.

i recall a weight for age race years ago about 1980 i think and i took a trificta for a single dollar to finish in order the number to take wer 7-8-12
when they were about to jump i looked at the ticket and saw that i had taken 7-8-2 by mistake. the 2 was hyperno and he was 80/1
he chased the front runner all the way and got nosed into 3rd by triumphal march right on the line.
the trifecta paid $515 for the dollar.
another one i had was when i took a 1-2 1-2 3 trifecta costing $2 and the phone bet girl accidentally boxed it well you wouldnt know it but 3 got second (example number) and the trifecta paid $694
one should never complain
it also shows the logic of racing. i always say its a co-incidence if we back a winner because if it isnt why dont we do it more often.
