It is widely known about the Saints talented lineup... It is also known about their weak defense..

What I question is the worth of having Gehrig, Riewoldt, Hamill, Koschitzke all in the forward line...
In the back line you have Maguire, Fisher and Penny trying to hold the key defensive positions.

My point is this. Koschitzke is just as good as Riewoldt, and if played at centre half forward would kick as many goals and probably take as many marks.
Why not put Riewoldt to Centre Half Back. Maybe Hamill in a back pocket/back flank.

The dominant teams of this century so far have had an excellent CHB. Namely Leppitsch, and Cornes. Both capable of controlling the back line and providing run and rebound. We know that Riewoldt could do the job as good, if not better.

Our players in the centre are good enough to kick goals, but right now the emphasis is on getting it in to the tall timber. Predictable football is ugly football.

My team:
B: Hamill, Penny, Hudghton
HB: Jones, Riewoldt, Voss
C: Goddard, Hayes, Fiora
HF: X Clarke, Koschitzke, Montagna
F: Milne, Gehrig, Guerra
Foll: Ackland, Dal Santo, Ball

Inter: Maguire, McGough, Harvey, Blake....

What do people think about this? Do they have any other options for our struggling defense?

Koschitzke is a good player but nowhere near the ilk of Riewoldt. Where did CAREY play when he was at the peak of his power. CHF.
Saints backline is underrated. I reckon Penny and Maguire can both play good footy. Penny did some great jobs last year and Maguire was a revelation.
Defenses need midfield pressure to look good.
Whitnell and Fevola looked ordinary yesterday because Carlton's midfield was put under extraordinary pressure.
Don't worry about the Saints. They are the real deal and will be peaking when it counts.
