Its called teletext. Some tvs have it and some dont. I dont Know if you can have it put on to a tv that hasnt already got it. To view it tune to channel seven, if your tv has it then there should be a button on your remote that says text. push that and it should open up to the main menu page. I think the 3 state odds are on page 503.

Although I think it only shows for the next event. Which means on a busy day, you might only get to view it for a minute....

I am referring only to the 3 state comparison screen....

Captain Charger,
Why not just use your computer and have all the sites running in the task bar. I do this every day, using 2 tab sites and 2 bookie sites so have 4 sites running at once. The advantage also is they are there all the time and you can keep refreshing to get current odds.

Cheers

I have teletext on my TV and have for a long time, but I am with Kenchar, I use the computer. But I think you might find that NSWTAB pulled there info. from teletext and you now only have access to Supertab and Unitab.

But it was free and was good when it was new technology, 10 yrs ago.

Hi new here but I have been reading a bit and getting opinions that are helpful when punting so I find the forum interesting and it's good we have some great characters here,, about teletext, it was free but alas the tab knew people playing other than on the tab were using it to compare prices with the opposition so they pulled the pin, nothing for nothing, you can still get unitab on telext bit slow though, the tab has tabtext wich is only available if you have a dish on the roof and a subscription to sky racing (not foxtel sky racing ) so you are forced to open a tab page for your prices subject to any delays, they know on fox before they do and then my screen plays catch up, you can of course open other tab sites or subscribe to a service for prices but the least complicated the better, gastly site the tab though ever feel like your going round in circles trying to log on and view the totes and asked to log in again to find a message saying you are already logged on! gggrrr makes me annoyed with them, you'd think with all the money they make they would have state of the art service with a first class website, typical, I think I have strayed off the path here a bit but forget about teletext it's ok for looking at shares at the end of the day and currency rates ect other than that just look at nsw tab or tab online or search the web for tab prices, I'm sure you will find many sites putting there hands up for a few bob subscription fee, well worth it I think cheers!!!

To be honest, the TAB prices are really irrelevant wherever you are looking at them. You need to be watching the fixed odds. It is the best indication to what the prices are doing...
If you are watching the tote, remember that the price showing when the race starts is not what it will pay. There is always another update to be done. If you are watching it on a website remember that the data has to be transferred through the server onto the site, then transferred through your modem, meaning very delayed prices. And if using a datascraping program such as 2nix, it is delayed even further.

The real money is at the track, and the tote will always follow this. Afterall, the bookies have to bet somewhere.....

You would be surprised at how much "smart" money is bet off the track. In the early 1980s I used to make a good living by going to the races midweek and betting the "overs" on the tote compared to the bookies. You could regularly get $10 on the tote about horses that were starting at 9/2 with the bookies. Not any more!
These days there are more and more professionals betting off course so the bookies fixed odds are not as good a guide as they used to be 20 years ago.

Thanks people for all your replies, seems there is no real "foolproof"method as some one said, the final tab price before they jump"ain't necessarily so."

Kenchar,

Sounds like you should have Firefox browser - have as many pages open as you want within one instance of the browser and click on the tabs - much more user friendly than seperate windows in the task bar.

PS Far superior browser in any case!

How does a TV capture card work Shaun? I assume it needs an arial etc and doesn't come through the net in some wierd way. How much are they?

Yes exactly...it is just a PCI card like your sound card or Network card....it plugs in to a PCI slot in your computer...you plug an ariel and it will come with software that allowes you to watch TV on your PC some of these cards come with software for teletext aswell so if you are going to buy one ask if it has teletext software.......some good Video Cards that you would normaly plug your monitor in to come with TV capture like mine it is an all in one card.....a basic capture card can cost about $100 you can find them cheaper.....a good video card with TV capture can cost $250-$600....you might be able to pick up a second hand one.....i have teletext software but not sure if it will work with other capture cards....i might have a look on the net for some software....but to be honest there are sites out ther that will display three state odds if thats what you are after.....one in particular is very good...but i can't drop a url but it is just like a virtual formguide

Cheers Shaun. No I used to have a TV with teletext and found it good for shares and obscure news items, but the TV died. I've got the real time odds covered :-).

I beleive it has just started that the pools on mobile start harness events will close 15 seconds earlier. It was also stated that 30 percent of the pool is bet in that 15 seconds...
I would imagine the same could be said for gallops meetings, although generally they have more in the pool so would give a better guide as to the final price.
