Rule 1: Eliminate races run on heavy tracks and races restricted to apprentice jockeys.
Rule 2: Consider only those horses which finished 2nd in each of its last three starts.
Rule 3: Last start <=56 days.
Rule 4: Eliminate any who are to be ridden by a claiming apprentice.

In the UK from 1995 to 2004, this system gave 483 selections for 137 winners (28.36%) for a profit of 114.36 units (23.68%).

3 seconds in a row suggests a non-winner & the type of horse I like to lay.

The results were for when the horse was backed, not layed.

Speaking as someone who knows nothing about racing in the UK to someone who it appears does, what in broad terms is the difference, I'd be interested to know.
