Rule 1: Eliminate races run on heavy tracks and races restricted to apprentice jockeys.
Rule 2: Consider only those horses which finished 2nd in each of its last three starts.
Rule 3: Last start <=56 days.
Rule 4: Eliminate any who are to be ridden by a claiming apprentice.
In the UK from 1995 to 2004, this system gave 483 selections for 137 winners (28.36%) for a profit of 114.36 units (23.68%).
