View Full Version : Don Scotts pricing method

Does anyone have the pricing table that Don Scott used for his ratings?

Sportz, I know you produced a similar table, I think it was the first one you posted that had A horse 0.5 kgs behind as getting 85 points, however I am sure that Dons table had that horse at a value of 0.9 or 90 points so I would like to use that one if anyone would mind posting it. If it cant be posted for copyright reasons then could they please send it to me at sonnyboy64 at optusnet dot com dot au

Thanks

This is not Scott's win betting table but his table for trifecta betting.
Expected Margin between top rated and other rated horse Decimal Odds
(kgs)
0.0 1.00
0.5 .850
1.0 .723
1.5 .614
2.0 .522
2.5 .444
3.0 .377
3.5 .321
4.0 .272
4.5 .232
5.0 .197
5.5 .167
6.0 .142
6.5 .121
7.0 .103
7.5 .087
8.0 .074
8.5 .063
9.0 .054
This gives longer priced horses a higher percentage chance.

Thanks Researcher, I might have to adjust it a bit to make it a bit tighter at the top, as I win bet only.

You're a generous man indeed Floydyboy, they're as rare as hens teeth mate and collectors will pay hundreds for them. I keep mine in the safe.:-)
What else you got that you don't need?

Thats OK Id rather see it put to use than gathering dust ...Its not in mint condition but it still works ...and yes I am a good bloke contrary to popular belief hahaha
Ive just dug out the book doc (its 26 years old ...fark how time gets away) the table in the pricing chapter is actually "weight advantage.......odds"

eg
Advan.....Odds

.5kg.......10/9 on
1kg.........5/4on
1.5kg.......6/4on
etc etc

Of course the Kg advantage can be converted into lengths and fractions of lengths ...but Im not sure if thats what you want ...let me know and well see how we go ...I really dont mind posting stuff from the book Its no trouble I spend 75% of my life in front of the computer ... be happy to help

The copy I had was called winning more, I think it was the second in the series and had the following

marg points

0 1
0.5 .9
1 .8

or something along those lines, but if you could post the rest of those you have down to 9.5 kg margin I be very grateful.

the figures on the right should be over a bit further but I can never seem to work out how to do it.

OK reading the top of the thread again it looks like what you want but youll have to do your own conversion on the ODDS/DECIMALS

KGS.....ODDS(ON)
0.5----10/9ON
1.0----5/4ON
1.5----6/4ON
2.0----7/4etc
2.5----2/1
3.0----5/2
3.5----3/1
4.0----4/1
4.5----5/1
5.0----7/1
5.5----9/1
6.0---12/1
6.5---15/1
7.0---20/1
7.5---25/1
8.0---30/1
8.5---40/1
9.0---60/1
9.5--100/1
There ya go Doc hope thats what ya wanted ....but as I said feel free to ask if ya need something else from the book Its the only racing book I have though

Thanks alot Floydyboy, its exactly what I wanted , easy enough to convert in decimals. And thanks for the offer of the book, but as KV said you should keep hold of it, it would be worth a bit to a collector if it is in any sort of reasonable shape. As regardsthe other stuff in the book such as bonuses and penalties for going distance barrier jockey and that sort of thing, I only use a base rating. I bank on the fact that if my selection/s have unfashionable jockeys or are coming from a wide barrier it will give me a better price. If a horse I fancy is at 15/1 I would sooner it be that way because it has some poor factors going against it rather than be that price because of poor form.

Thanks H. I wish someone could tell us how to format properly so that any figures put up bear some relation to the headings their under.
