Ahhh the wonders of online gambling. If you are a money flow follower, there is nothing better than watching (eg on Tabonline) a short priced "favourite" blow out or wobble slightly 20 seconds before a race starts and one or two from the second or third line of betting firm in. A quick check on Betfair and you can see that same favourite being backed heavily on the lay side as the clock ticks down. Then you recall that the favourite has won twice recently in similar company with 51kg on its back...and this time round, it's carrying 58kg. Oops, the favourite just managed to beat the ambulance home this time round.
But enough on the late money flow. I also follow the opening money flow on Tabonline, particularly for the opening two races in Brisbane. Did anyone else notice that for Ipswich race 1 on June 1 that "Hopespringseternal" opened at less than 3.50 and held this price for more than 10 minutes?
That same horse won at $18.80 less than one hour later.I could not see anything it it's formline to warrant betting this nag, but backed it each way anyway. I reckon there are some astute local punters up there in Brisbane....as the same thing happens week in and week out.
Also, did anyone else pick up Corporal Nediym in race 1 at Mooney Valley on Wednesday? Horses carrying no weight, (with ok form) in small fields (8 and under) of average quality have been quite lucrative for me over the years. Does anyone have access to stats that indicate the winning % of faves in these small fields is any worse or the same over time as compared to fields of 10-14 runners?
