.....you back a loser OR when you miss out on backing a winner?
Today, (as I mentioned in another thread), I managed to miss out on a $71 winner that I definitely should have backed. For Valour (SR6-13) was on my blackbook list of horses to follow and Racenet emailed me telling me it was running, so there was no excuse for me not backing it. But when I saw the huge odds just prior to the race, I didn't think "you beauty, here's a chance for a big win". Instead I thought "well that one's obviously got no chance" and left it out. How dumb is that? I went against all the principles you should use of looking for value and ignoring what others think.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Do you feel worse when you back a loser or when you miss out on backing a winner? I have to say I felt pretty sick this afternoon when For Valour crossed the line, even though I was in profit at that stage and did end up making a profit for the day.

For me personally i would rather miss a winner then back a loser!!!!
Over time you are gonna back more losers then winners, and when you back a loser its not just the pocket that feels it, you also know you got the race wrong which can make you lose a bit of confidence and can give you if's and but's about the next bet.
At least if you missed a winner you can still have the feeling of getting it right which can help you with your next investment headwise.
Incidentally i actually didn't have For Valour in my top 6 selections but actually backed it when i saw it was $92 (came into $76.90) and remembered i had it black booked 2 times last prep, also backed Turaga which finished 3rd!!!!

Didn't back FOR VALOUR as such but did like RATIONALIZE very much in the 5th so took it with the field in the double. The double with FOR VALOUR paid $213.60 for the $1.

Very rarely punt in hurdles but got THE tip from a reliable source for Enzed today so had a good go. Upon collecting the payout registers over double what I had expected. Checking with the operator I’d backed race 2 instead of race 3! LOL :D

I had a great day today but I'm not going to go into detail because it doesn't tend to go down well if you talk about your wins that have not been pre-posted on the forum.

its bad luck. but have faith in the system. a loser at $70 doesnt cost anymore than a loser at $3.
level stakes is the way to go. if the system comes up with it. put something on it.
the thrill of the unexpected dividend is worth the wait.

Thanks Topsy. The most annoying thing is that I actually had 2 horses from my Horses To Follow list in that race and I backed the other one (John Syn) because it was about $15 and given a chance by some whereas For Valour was $70 and basically given no chance by anyone. :(
