Geelong Cup
The Geelong Cup comes up this Wednesday. As we all know, this can be a good guide to the Melbourne Cup. Although the field has not been finalised as yet I think that Trick Of Light will be the one to beat here. Although was heavily back last start and some may of been dissapointed in this run I think it was quite strong. Had a tough run and was running home nicely. If you have a look was chasing home a smart one by the name of Fire In The Night which went on to win on Saturday. I will be checking closely for the price when it comes out, the TAB may give you a touch of overs if you get in early.
Post your thoughts here, and for the rest of the card help steer us in the direction of a winner. Good Luck |
Hi everyone,
This is my first post, I've been viewing this forum with interest for some time now and thought I better start an account and get involved. As my name suggests I wouldn't call myself a hawk/shark so take my tips as you would any other laymen. I like the following three in the geelong cup each way. 6 Zavite 1 Cefalu 8 The Fuzz All have been very consistent this spring against some class runners. Good luck |
Welcome to the forum of laymens HardlyaHawk :)
Whats everyone thoughts on TOULOUSE LAUTREC in the cup ??? i know hes been alittle dissapointing on the flat but the jumps can sometimes revitalise a horse ,,hes looked real good his last couple and theres no doubting hes got alittle class about him.... this isnt a strong Geelong Cup ,,,thought On A Jeune and Dracs Back would have targeted this race,,better prize money than the DJ Cup on the weekend.. |
It appears as thought I overlooked Zavite. Will be very hard to beat on its last run.
Toulouse Lartrec may go alright. As you said the jumps can sharpen a horse up however I would want to wait and see. It may be worth a few dollars each way if it is at long enough odds. |
Welcome to the forum hardlyahawk. I think your on the money with Zavite [I'll pass on Cefalu winning this].
Geelong Cup I did a bit of form study this morning on this race and I see everything in favour for the mid-pacer Zavite (NZ) (6) 55.05yo b h (A J Cummings ) M Rodd. There will be a bit of pace on from leaders Cefalu, Dane Empire [if he gets across from b16] and the 1st. emergency Iris in the Glen if she runs. Zavite has won at the distance and will be 4th. start in after a slashing run last start for a 1.3L 2nd. to Master O'Reilly over this trip at Caulfield in the Winning Edge Stakes. Master O'Reilly is looking great for the Melb. Cup, so the formline for Zavite is very good for this. A lot of horses in this race don't seem to be coming up to decent form this season and last starts for most of them haven't been inspiring or not up to this class of race. Trick Of Light ran 4th. last start in a Geelong 1700m open Hcp. worth $60k. His best run last prep. was only in a $45k race but he did manage a 2nd in a $100 race. Steps up 700m in distance for the Geelong Cup. Sentire might be a watch as he was disappointed for a run last start at Flem., but still finished 4th. behind Dolphin Joe over 2530m [importantly, he has won 3 times and placed once from 6 starts at 2400m]. The Fuzz ran OK in that race too for 2nd place. Anything might pop up in this but on recent form, Zendite takes the biscuit. |
Thanks crash, it does seem a standout. Probably be lucky to get 3 1/2 on the tote? I'll be going to the races hopefully I can find stronger odds or might have to be looking to other races for value. Go the country cups

Hawk, you can get $3.6 on TAB sportsbet at the moment if you want it.

Zavite is close to a good thing. If he can repeat his last start performance they will not beat him.
Toulouse Lautrec is now in very good form and is going to get a top run, can win, Trick of Light is the obvious danger to Zavite though. |
Toulous is nice value at 21's ,,, the 3.80 Zavite is good aswell as i think he'll be supported tomorrow,,, i'll be on both and going nice and wide for the multis..

I will go for The Fuzz. Good run in the Bart Cummings....
