I'd be interested to know people's thoughts on Shoot Out after yesterday's Cox Plate. His last 3 runs have indicated to me he wants further and $21 for the Cup looks tasty at this stage. Has won to 2400m but the 3200 is always a query. In saying that I thought it was a super Cup trial.

So You Think's run was deceptive from a Cup perspective. He took off at the 800m, so as Arnold advised he was probably entitled to peak on his run before the line. Bart will have him rock hard fit with one more run in the Mackinnon and he seems to settle so beautifully these days, I'm loathe to tip against him.

Sifting through the Cup chances, I'd be wary of sacking Alcopop after one average run on a bog track in the Caulfield Cup. If he gets conditions up to slow, he'd have to be a massive chance with 53.5 kilos.

In saying all that, Shocking's run in the Caulfield Cup was MASSIVE.

Ah, the beauty of the racing game......

jake 24th October 2010 08:52 AM

bart is still looking to run so you think in the mackinnon..before a melbourne cup start..

..if so..will he be flat chat in the mackinnon..?

..and how well will he back-up for the cup..potentially his 3rd start in 11 days..

TheSchmile 24th October 2010 12:25 PM

I'm also interested to see how So You Think will run in the Mackinnon and especially where he will settle in the run. Bart's team said 'he's won every race this prep that we've set him for'. Will they simply give him a training run in the Mackinnon and we see him 'get held up at a vital stage'? Class may still prevail, though I very much doubt Bart would want to have him sitting on the speed if they do go ******** for leather up front.

Very, very interesting...

..corey brown reckons that shoot out is crying out for flemington & the 2 miles..

Raven 25th October 2010 09:55 AM

I feel the same way. His best runs have always been on a big track. Came home well in the Cox considering the fast last 600m. He just seems to love racing Shoot Out, & Im convinced the High Chapperals will run the distance.

I took $31 e/w a couple of weeks back for shoot out for the cup thought that looked good value at the time I also put on a little $10 e/w bet on cedarberg today at $331 I know he has a tough chance making the field but if he does there are worse chances out there that is for sure

Raw Instinct 25th October 2010 06:18 PM

I meant to mention I still feel that Monaco Consul is a chance in the race his run in the coalfield cup was good took off 1000 from home and was well and truly entitled to die on his run won't take the $19 on offer right as I reckon better will be on offer race day but definitely worth an e/w ticket

coasterc4 26th October 2010 10:54 PM

shocking has to be a huge chance but what about linton only lightly raced and under robert hickmott whos team is flying at the moment amercain is unbeaten for last four not a bad run in geelong cup 1st up from a spell overseas dont know about so you think has he got enough miles this prep for 2 miles against proven stayers

luv2bet 27th October 2010 07:42 PM

lay him at your peril!!
just remember who trains it, would not be running if bart wasnt confident of it getting 2 miles.

Matilda 28th October 2010 12:29 AM

I still believe will be in the Cup and will be a bg chance. I like Shoot out too and Zipping together with Shocking.

Raw Instinct 30th October 2010 06:22 PM

They still have to find a way to beat So You Think tuesday we'll see what happens I doubt he will be any value at all and doubt I'll back it but I certainly won't be cheering against it if he wins he is a freak and so far he looks it.

Matilda 30th October 2010 08:11 PM

I dont think he (SYT) can win from barrier 3 with 24 horses well I should say hard for him to win as an off pacer. He will be trap in the 23 horses. With Shocking at 24, another thouch one to win. Dont be suurprise if Shoot Out comes out as a winner. I am going for Harris or Manighar.

Raw Instinct 30th October 2010 08:39 PM

Matilda

as i have said previously I am on Shoot Out already happy to be there Monaco Consul is one i will definitely back on the day and Maluckyday is intriguing after today. Still if So You Think stays anywhere near the trip they can't beat him he is a weighted certainty if you consider right now if the weights were done after today he would have atleast around the 60kg mark.

I'll be cheering for what i back but unlike in the past if this bloke wins I certainly won't begrudge him that how many horses get the chance to win 2 Cox Plates, Mackinnon, Underwood and Caulfield Stakes and not to mention 5 million in prize money in 11 starts and then have the chance of winning a Melbourne Cup at start 12 with 56kgs on his back he is thrown in at the weights and if you like anything else you want him there cause he will bring value to everything else.

jimbob 31st October 2010 09:19 AM

what do you guys think of once were wild chances? huge run in the lexus

Raw Instinct 31st October 2010 10:50 AM

I am better staying out of an opinion on waterhouses horse such is my hatred for the woman. Probably be worth a place ticket be very shocked it went near winning the race to be honest

Horse Whisperer 31st October 2010 01:57 PM

Jimbob Ive got two pre post tickets on the race and they are Holberg ($331 put on at about 1230 yesterday when horses in the field started dropping like flies) and Once Were Wild ($151), I thought her run yesterday was as good if not beter than Maluckyday. If she isnt chasing a run away leader she should look some hope in the straight with her low weight.
Ill be stoked if either just run a place but a win would be unreal.

maverick1993 31st October 2010 03:18 PM

I can't see a stack of speed up front in this , So you think will possie up just behind Descarado and just sprint to quick for them.
maluckyday was awesome yesterday but is so immature , I have a nice ticket on him but i worry if the track is a total bog.

Don't mind Americain
All the better for his Geelong Cup win
Has wet form as well

TheSchmile 31st October 2010 07:30 PM

I took some photos at the track yesterday of So You Think in the parade ring if anyone would like me to email them.

Raw Instinct 2nd November 2010 05:18 AM

I wish i had the time to do a write up i don't unfortunately so here goes with my top 5 tips anyway

1. Shoot Out
2. Holberg
3. So You Think
4. Monaco Consul
5. Maluckyday

that is sort of an order I'll box the 5 of them for a trifecta today see how that goes good luck to all

maverick1993 2nd November 2010 09:38 AM

The trifecta and 1st 4's are always nice in the cup

So You think
Maluckyday / Shocking / Monco Consul / Zipping
Shoot out / Linton / Descarado/ American

maverick1993 2nd November 2010 10:21 AM

I'm having trouble with just about all the bookmaker sites , typical Melbourne Cup day :(

nags2riches 2nd November 2010 11:13 AM

I've been trying to get on to IAS for about an hour now without any luck.
I't annoying the crap out of me. I'll keep at it a little longer as I don't really want to go to the TAB and stand in a long queue behind the once a year punters (that will annoy me even more!).

Matilda 2nd November 2010 11:56 AM

Mav, u should not have a prob now. 30 minutes ago was due to jockey changed for Precedence.

My Tips for Tri :
Taking risk for better return.....

Shocking, Zipping, Shoot Out, Americian, Harris Tweed,Linton and MaLuckyday.

maverick1993 2nd November 2010 12:26 PM

Ias was playing up way before Zabaurin had a stack , probably there garunteed money back special cluttering the system.

Still slow now.
