A system for those without a system.
When I ran my rating programme before the races, one of the tasks it performs is to look at jockeys with a single ride for the day.
I look at that list of jockeys, select the capable ones and look if their mounts are also capable of winning or placing. If so then that is a bet, so far I have better than 40% S/R at better than $8.00 ave. div. Today there are two bets, one M Rodd at Ballarrat race 6 already ran won at $16.70 and $4.10. The next one is race 7 #5 TEL ONNAH B RAWILLER. Even if he doesn't win or place I will have covered my next 14 win bets or next two place bets on this simple system. I run this in conjunction with my rating. I'm sure many of you are aware of this angle but I thought I remind those who don't know. But beware it must be a good jockey who is prepared to travel for a single ride and the horse must be able to win, by that I don't mean it has to be a tip from the tipsters! Actually I don't follow the tipsters at all, never even look at them, if you want tips, look at the odds, or follow the outsiders tipped by your fav tipster. Far more profitable. |

I would think your sample is quite small at the moment. How many selections have you had so far? |

You have a knack of asking questions that implies disbelief and lack in one's credibility. Do you really think I dreamed this up today just to boast? This is a well know angle, been around since races became more popular and widespread so that jocks had to travel. The same applies to a certain degree to trainers who are taking their horses hundreds of miles from their stables in pursuit of suitable races. |

And you seem to take offense whenever you are questioned. It won't happen again. |
Interesting angle. I might keep an eye on it.
Justg one question . What do you deem a good jockey ? Do you use premiership table or another rating ? |
What rating program brings this sort of info up?

just go to the A-Z list on the left hand side, and click on the Jockeys opposite the race track and scan (fancy way of saying LOOK at it) it manually, same with trainers. Takes about two minutes in all. The important trick is to identify the capable jocks and then the horses. You do not get many selections. I have my favorites and sometimes they let me down but most of the time they don't, that is how I get such a good S/R. Do not get carried away by single ride jocks, many times they only have a single ride because they aren't any good and have take what comes along. |

I make up my own list from week to week because Jockeys are like everyone, in and out of form, but I prefer a generally good jockey out of form against an ordinary one in form. Sometimes when you listen to the race caller he will tell you AFTER the race that it was the only ride for the jockey on the track for the day! Big help is it? Just as I said before don't get carried away, a run of the mill jock will travel anywhere for the fee, for him, any fee is better than no fee, but M Rodd doesn't need a couple of hundred so badly that he would get out of the cot for one ride, if you get my drift? |
Another point to consider is the good trainer taking one horse to a meet at a track other than his normal area. Beton

Thanks lomaca. I don't know a good jockey from a monkey (probably why I'm better at trading than betting  ).

I give you two examples but beware even they don't win every time, the horse matters a lot too. One is as I mentioned is M Rodd the other is Holly McKechnie, she is excellent but be prepared to watch her losing the ones you think are in the bag and then suddenly win a race with a no-hoper. She mostly rides in the provincial and country races but comes to the city from time to time. I think the best is to select and follow your fav. jockey. In your case I'd probably stick to what you are good at. |

BARRY, T WHISKEY IN THE JAR Bendigo R2 this one may place? The other one is TWIGINTHEDESERT Bendigo R6 although strictly speaking not a qualifier because she has two rides today but I rate this one of hers as the better of the two, an E/W chance. Of course I may have it the wrong way around? Small wagers only!!! and good luck with it. |
It seems this NON SYSTEM is aptly named.
The Rules seem very flexible to be an actual System. |

I notice P Mertens only had the 1 ride and won the first race at $13.30. At least I'd heard of him before.

Looks like if the jockey rule applies and his horse is also a first starter in a similar field then it should be considered. Peter M is definitely one of the hoops I follow. This is the sort of win you need, and specially if early enough in the day you can stop betting. I only included Linda Meech because she is a good rider not because she qualified. Looks like I should have been tipping her on a different thread as mentioning here has upset someone. She still has one more ride, will be interesting to see what happens, I would be surprised if she didn't at least place. |

There are two Rawillers at the Bendigo meeting. But at least the "system" is proven, not that I needed it, have been using it for yonks. Just don't get carried away and bet on everything! Ps place2win I only use this on Victorian races not familiar with interstate jockeys. |

Point Taken lomaca I think a small stable of jocks and who they ride for, plus any deviences in their habit may be the way to go |
Plus Jim Cassidy at Gosford Race 4 No 10 - Paid $1.40 the win :(
And he was riding Princess Layla :D |
Is anyone writing all these modifications to the no system down?

There you go again, you and one or two others who are know to everyone, always running down those who are trying to help... |

It certainly possible when you make OVER 4,000 Posts, that some efforts of assistance will be misconstrued or misinterpreted or hurt persons feelings. |
I'm going to enjoy testing this non-system or system, whatever you prefer to call it.
I'm going to see how I go based in QLD so looking at Ipswich today About 11 jockeys having one ride today. Starting with the jockeys with a rating of 3 or more from R&S to test K.Forrester riding Race 6 - 13 G.Killen riding Race 2 - 12 SCR A.Kitson riding Race 6 - 9 B.Stewart riding Race 7 - 16 SCR Ratings 2.5 + K.Banks R4 no 1 T.Bell R6 no 5 SCR So we have 3 runners. $10 each on the nose! Giddy up |
Good Luck Vortech.
I suggest , if it ain't to late , that you tread warily at the start , and instead of risking being on the nose, you just be satisfied with going for the place. |

There are literally tens of single ride jockeys every day, doesn't mean they are all going to win, one must be selective. Also I hate to say this because I'll be accused of changing the rules, but since we are more or less serious punters here I assumed that some things don't need to be spelled out and common sense prevails, meaning that if there are two or more single ride jockeys in the race as in race 6 Ipswich, you have to make a decision, what to do. Back both or leave it alone, I usually leave it alone. |
Totally agree.
I wouldn't start using real funds until after 6 months of testing and changing rules etc. This is a different approach and something I might play with and see when it ends up. |
Not bad results
Race 4 saw a 2nd Race 6 saw a 2nd (3.20) and 3rd (5.50) |

Well done, that certainly pays for both win and place bets. Also shows that the "non system" system must not be too far away what with two 2nds and a 3rd. Also R&S having jockey ratings is good for trying to sort out who's supposedly good and who isn't (I didn't even know they had that although I just looked and can't make out which column is which as the ratings may have changed as they may have been updated). |
5 Qualifiers are Brisbane tomorrow, but no jockey ratings high enough.
The best is BR 8 no 9 where Daniel Griffen is a rating 2.9. Also AR 9 - 7 worth a place bet. |
Done&dusted for the day
Hawera race 2
As I said, if you can get a good win early in the day you can relax and stop betting. A win like this gives you another 33 goes for a win or 7 more for a place. |

Lucky you didn't post the selection before the Race. The Forum Curse would have brought you down like it has done on all the ones you have posted. What was Vanessa Johnstons Rating at the Website? I'm not familiar with how to find it. |
Vortech (and others thinking of using the S&R Jockey Rating),
I gave Albury a go today and quickly found an anomoly: Jockey...........Rating.....Venue,Race,TAB,Horse Ms A Masters...2.8........Albury,1,5,Rebel Ridge Ms A Masters...2.8........Albury,1,11,Stella Denon Ms A Masters...1.8........Albury,3,3,Valace Ms A Masters...1.8........Albury,4,10,Rumble King Ms A Masters...1.8........Albury,5,14,Lexical Ambiguity Ms A Masters...2.8........Albury,6,5,Avia Alize same jockey, Amanda Masters (apprentice) but with different ratings - I copied the data before the race meeting began and rechecked after the races - still the same |
The jockey rating will vary on the website as it is calculated by the strike rate over distance and course. It can be misleading with a rating changing in various races but its only a guide at this stage

I checked best I could about VANESSA JOHNSTON. Seems she had a Rating of MINUS One :( Just goes to show this is Exactly a Non-System , but more of a show of how a clever and experienced Judge that LOMACA is. LOMACA , I salute you. U DA MAN. |
When you go into Racing and Sports. Click on the Field tab under the race details. not ratings or neurals. It lists the Jockey and Trainer ratings.

Thanks Vortex. I'm very new to this. I'll go have another try. |

Do you think you could detail me how to do for TATURA today Vortech? What buttons do you click on to get the LIST of Jockeys? Or could you just do it , and report back what is VANESSA JOHNSTON Rating please? |
