Is LONHRO over the line?

Is this a no bet race?

Any value there for the multiples?

7th March 2004 09:01 AM

I think Lonhro is over the line.
For the multiples - Elvstroem, Pentatsic & Makybe Diva. Would also throw in Physique at around 25/1. Two runs back from a spell have been very good, looks a much improved horse this time around.

Mark 7th March 2004 09:21 AM

As discussed before the Cox Plate....nothing is over the line.

BettyBoop 7th March 2004 09:45 AM

I'll be backing ELVSTROEM EW Paddy. I think still improving & capable of an upset, with Damien on board.

7th March 2004 09:49 AM

Lohnro probably isnt over the line. Sound action and Makybe Diva will be probably charging home. On current form these are really the two big threats to knock off the mighty lohnro. Do you think he's as mighty as the Big O. For a horse to have such a monumental strikerate is pretty rare in todayd racing. I think that if he had the Octagonal bulldog spirit near the line, he would be an out and out champion!

Chenille Prince 7th March 2004 10:39 AM

I'll be focusing on some place betting, think I can snare a place & still get a better return than the $1.50'sh likely to be paid out for Lonhro, should he salute.

goldmember 7th March 2004 02:48 PM

Not quite over the line, Makybe Diva a big danger, Sound Action a chance if better ridden than last time, that's about it. Mummify hates flemington, Elvstroem & Dalzao 100/1 on their last effort[ have a look at the replay of the race]the rest are outclassed.

MyHatMyCoat 7th March 2004 08:12 PM

A no bet race for me, but I’ll certainly be tuning in.

anchor 7th March 2004 08:33 PM

I can't have a bet in it. The heart will be pumping for the owner of that $1m bet when Lonhro stakes his claim down the straight.

Chuck 8th March 2004 05:35 AM

LOHNRO to beat
PENTASTIC or
MAKYBE DIVA

Tony 8th March 2004 08:37 AM

I've long been in the Lonhro sceptic camp, he has proven very vulnerable when the pressure is really on, however hard to beat here.
Mummify has the class but is a Flemington worry and Lonhro has proven his superior at wfa. Sound Action has been gallant but beaten fair and square easily by Lonhro and hard to see any or enough improvement in her.
Makybe Diva caused excitement last start but it was behind two ordinary ones and need to be convinced at wfa yet.
Elvstroem is interesting, looked a chance to be something in the spring and is just warming up now and has the Oliver factor.
Hard to see Lonhro not running 1/2 and I think I will back him and save on Elvstroem/Lonhro and Mummify/Lonhro exactas.

Good luck all.

crash 8th March 2004 09:12 AM

Lonhro is at his max this distance and depending on the pace might be found out in this unless he gets it all his own way.

PENTASTIC for me at this track and distance with Lonhro and Makybe Diva for a boxed Quin. and Tri.

Cheers.

Rogan Josh 8th March 2004 09:47 AM

No-bet race for me as well - as the price suggests, LONHRO should win.

ginger 8th March 2004 09:53 AM

i hope mummify and makybe diva (possibly both at the lead ) keep the pressure on lonhro and keep him honest
my pick is #9 sound action

Desi 8th March 2004 10:33 AM

Lonhro will have to work for hard but should get there...Sound Action, Elvstroem, Maykbe Diva for the F4, might even box these four for the Q. Good luck and wise punting today!

goldmember 8th March 2004 01:40 PM

Just had a look at the prices, Lonhro $1.80 fixed odds, that will do me, TAB $1.50 stingy ......s

Shaun 8th March 2004 01:58 PM

WELL? what more can we say.....do we say he is a champ after that....what more does he have to do

sportznut 8th March 2004 02:07 PM

Yeah, not a bad effort that.

TheAvenger 8th March 2004 02:11 PM

This yank swears that Delzao won this race, from the replay, also. Must have a bad camera angle. Also had a win ticket on the 11. The 1-11 Quinella paid $50 US, so I did alright for a $10 bet.

THAT proves he is a champion and the best horse in australia by a long way. Makybe Diva disapointing after getting a dream run on the turn and into the straight, didn't finish off that well.

topsy99 8th March 2004 02:12 PM

horse 10/10
rider ?

darkydog2002 8th March 2004 02:27 PM

Didn,t that millionaire punter take $1.55 for his million.?
darky.

topsy99 8th March 2004 02:34 PM

a million probably would have crunched the tab. so maybe he's happy. i would be (now).

darkydog2002 8th March 2004 02:42 PM

Topsy. My understanding is that he accepted $1.55 fixed price bookie.
But yeah a million bucks on the TAB here would have brought the price back to $1.04.
Not that he/she would be silly enough to go TAB.
darky.

kenchar 8th March 2004 04:38 PM

I BET HE HAD TO GHANGE HIS UNDERPANTS

darkydog2002 8th March 2004 04:48 PM

When he/she gets out of the coronary care unit I wonder what they will spend it on.
darky

Desi 8th March 2004 05:13 PM

Never really been a Lonhro fan meself but have got to give it to him...they tried everything to ruin his day...how's that for a ride and a half!

Shaun 8th March 2004 09:32 PM

I wonder if that was the same guy that had atkeast $200.000 on him at each of his last 12 starts gees thats over $2 million...he was from WA

pardon me 9th March 2004 09:41 AM

yep a terrific run by a great horse BUT a shocker by the jock, i would say more like half a ride than a ride and a half, if the horse went down by a head we all know who would be copping the blame and with justification i would say

Paddy 9th March 2004 09:59 AM

Apparently not the mystery punter from Perth, Shaun – so they say

Mark 9th March 2004 10:05 AM

Bad ride ???
He won, and was not punished to the line to do so either.
How many lesser jocks would have panicked, or would have taken him to the lead too soon or had him wide early or gone back to the inside where the going was clearly worse?
Bad ride?, those on Makybe Diva did their money cold.

9th March 2004 10:18 AM

Well, what can I say but brilliant! He's answered my previous question. That was definitely if not more an octagonal win if ever i've seen one. That was just pure bulldog! I doubt I've seen a horse produce such an amazing recovery in a race such as this. I didn't think it was a bad ride. The horse on his outside up the straight there looked to run in a bit and completely chop out the passage he had. To switch round and rebalance him like that and rely on the horses spirit was both magical and genius to watch. Well done Lohnro the big L. What I can't believe is that it was his Melbourne swansong. He's only just peaking don't you reckon?

Cheers Megamoos

I totally agree. Although Beadman probably shouldn't have been where he was, he had no real control of the pace or their positioning due to the speed set early by Physique.

When he was in trouble it seemed to me that Beadman let the horse find his own way out of trouble then he let him go, pushing him without thrashing him home.

Beadman also conceded upon dismounting that it wasn't his best ride but he got the big fella home and also rode a treble on the day.

I think it was one of the best rides (or runs) that I have ever seen and confirmed to this Melbournian what a lot of interstaters have said all along, that the horse is an out-right champion (although I always did like him anyway)

umrum 9th March 2004 03:28 PM

He's the best horse in Australia at the moment. Clearly. But does that make him a champion. 'Twas a great win all the same.
cheers
umrum

Luckyboy 9th March 2004 03:36 PM

Forget all this 'champion' stuff - it's all too subjective...

What we saw yesterday was legendary... It will become part of racing folklore. We will all remember (for those it saw it live) where we were and what we were doing when Lonhro came back from adversity to win the Australian Cup.

Lonhro the Legend. Now that has a nice sound too it!
