Football Punters Comp 2005
Welcome to the Football Punters Comp thread. Please feel free to join in.
The comp will run from Thursday, February 17 to Sunday October 2. The cutoff point to begin betting is the 31st of March. Anyone who hasn't made at least one bet before the 1st of April will unfortunately miss out. The bookmakers we will be using are: IAS Bet Sportingbet Australia sportodds.com You can use any of the bet types they offer on AFL, League or Union matches. I'm sure there will be some things in the rules that not everyone agrees with. I'm sorry about that. Can't please everyone. RULES Starting bank: $500 Number Of Bets: Minimum of 50, Maximum of 200 Bet Sizes: $10, $20, $30, $40 or $50 Mult-bets: Maximum of 5 legs No 'futures' betting allowed A quick explanation. Everyone has a starting bank of $500. Obviously the object of the game is to build on that $500 so that you end up with the highest amount in the bank on Oct2. Everyone must make at least 50 bets during the comp to qualify and nobody is allowed to make more than 200 bets. To keep things as simple as possible, I've decided we can only use bet sizes of $10, $20, $30, $40 and $50. Also to keep things simple, I've put a limit of 5 legs on the multi-bets. Some may be disappointed with that, but 5 legs will still allow you to go for a good return without things getting out of hand. There is no 'futures' betting in this comp (unfortunately for me). By that I mean you can't place a bet now on who will win the Brownlow or the Premiership etc etc. You can only bet on events that are happening within the next 7 days. Of course, it goes without saying that you must post your selections before the starting time of the match and certainly no editing of posts after starting time. When posting your selections, please set them out very clearly so everyone knows exactly what the bet is. Please state your opening balance, bet number, match, bet type, your selection, bet size, latest odds, possible winning amount and closing balance. Something like this: Opening Balance $500 Bet number 1 St George vs Souths St George to win $40 @ $1.45 ($58.00) Closing balance $460 I will keep a record and post an updated leaderboard after each weekend. Even so, could everyone try to make absolutely sure that you don't make any mistakes with your adding up etc. Good luck! :) |

What tab are you using
Can you roll your own starts and use in multis etc Prices vary from tab to tab Maybe we either all use the same tab or we stipulate which tab when placing bets. Also can you cancel before the game if say someone has a late injury etc Cheers |

How about we use the 30 minute editing cutoff point that is on posts? In other words you get just 30 minutes to edit your post changing or cancelling your bet. Any later than that, bad luck. After all, in the real world, if you put a bet on on Friday and one of the top players gets injured just before the game on Sunday, you can't cancel your bet can you? |

Rabbitz, these are the bookies you can use: Sportingbet Australia, IAS bet, Sportodds Yes, you can use any of the bet types they offer on AFL, League or Union. Yes, you can have Multis, but there is a limit of 5 legs in your multis. Yes, in your posts, please tell us which bookie you used for each bet. |
My bets
I'll have $50 HH on all of WBD, STK, Carl and Melb
and $25 HH on all of Freo, Kang and Adel |
Bookie,
I'm sorry, but did you read the introductory post with all the rules? :o Don't you want to check out the odds on the three sites and pick out the best odds for your selections? If I had to check out the odds for everybody's tips, it would be an enormous amount of work for me, so the idea is for you to check out the 3 bookies, find the best odds and post your selections here with those odds. Unfortunately, prices are only up on tonight's 2 games, so you can't bet on the other 6 games yet. If you can't come back on here later to post your bets in those other 6 games, then perhaps you can give them a miss this week. Also, you can only use the following bet sizes: $10, $20, $30, $40 & $50, so I'm sorry, no $25 bet please. Here's an example of how I'd like you to set your posts out: Opening Balance: $500 Bet 1: Head to Head (IAS) Fremantle $30 @ $1.80 ($54.00) Closing Balance: $470 We're not off to a good start. :( |
Sorry champ.
Can I make the $25's now $30? And can I use the odds from Norm Short? He's up on all games. Or TAB Sportsbet? |
No, I'm very sorry. We're using just the 3 bookies - Sportingbet, IAS and Sportodds. Hopefully at least one of them should have their odds up on all games by tonight. Can you come back on over the weekend to post selections?
|
So Bookie, can I put you down for this bet then?
Bet 1: Head to Head (IAS) Fremantle $30 @ $1.80 ($54.00) Closing Balance: $470 After that, the rest is up to you. Sportodds has prices up on a few more games now. |

Sportz! Would you like me to keep my eye out for irregularities? Perhaps I could keep a backup record of a leaderboard! |

Come on Sportz! Be a sport.Let me hold your hand.I'm sure this thread will be the thread of all time. Yes I think that if people wish to enter the comp. they need to follow the rules.I'm sure there are lots of punters out there who will monitor proceedings and use the tips placed as guidelines in their real punting. So lets put a bit of effort in our selections boys! |

I think we should endorse the prices of the Forum operators advertised supporters only.(IAS,Sportingbet). Not that Norm Short is bad.It makes it much easier for Sportznut, and helps the Ozmium group in their endeavours. But for Multi bets, then Sportodds prices being the chosen ones. Only because they offer the pick-your-own margins. |
OK
I want all those selections and I will put the prices up as they come. But, I definitely want all those picks. Cool? |
Yes Mo, after working it all out with someone from the forum, I think the 3 bookies we've chosen should cover all the betting opportunities we need.

What odds TheBookie doesn't make it to the real football! |
Yeah, I'm going to take it really cautious for a start. I just went for a multi with what I thought were 'safe' results.... Collingwood and Fremantle with 39.5 points start, St Kilda to win and St George with 12.5 points start. Got the first 3 legs up although St Kilda worried me for a while, but it looks like St George are going to let me down. They're down by 18 with 8 minutes left!!! :(
Should have just backed Melbourne to beat Brisbane. Was pretty confident that would happen, but didn't have the guts to back my judgement. |
