Geraldton

Word is the Geraldton meeting scheduled for today has been officially abandoned but as mentioned in previous post the Geraldton Sprint has been added to Sunday's Geraldton Cup meeting.

As fate would have it Chenille Prince is topweight for both the sprint and the cup! :)

AdrianLee 12th January 2006 03:08 PM

I love to see it race in both. I don't think it'll happen but I'm sure horses are tough enough to do it.

watsonnek 12th January 2006 03:09 PM

Go away rain!!

Overnight rain in Perth and non-stop today. Looks like it's settled in for a while. Hopefully will clear up well before the weekend's racing.

The sprint at 4:12pm the cup at 4.50pm! Somehow I don't think so :)

watsonnek 12th January 2006 03:13 PM

Suppose there's always the Gold Coast Sat but it will probably be wet there as well

AdrianLee 12th January 2006 03:26 PM

Ironic...right now it's fine in geraldton...no rain according to the rain radar lol

Also listed to race PR4 Ascot Saturday

Perhaps just warming up for Sundays marathon :D

GERALDTON CUP 2100M Sunday

Assuming they all line-up on Sunday tis one of the better Geraldton Cups I've seen for a while!

Chiquita 12th January 2006 05:13 PM

Geraldton Cup

Yep good field! Only a few hours drive north of Perth so it's a wonder they don't get more 'city' slickers.

Geraldton Sprints

Now two open sprints on Sunday's Geraldton card with a good few of the same horses in both!!

Chiquita 12th January 2006 05:38 PM

Gee you're right westman - didn't notice that before - I would expect the original Sat sprint field to dwindle - big difference in prize money between that race and the rescheduled sprint!!

westman 12th January 2006 05:43 PM

Corporate Kate

I wonder which sprint Corporate Kate will start in? The 1400M might be more suitable and would also bypass a meeting with Blessed Sue.

westman 12th January 2006 05:45 PM

Hi AdrianLee! How are you mate? Booring with Geraldton abandoned!! What do ya reckon?!

Good point westman! The winners cheque for the 1400M sprint is $10K whilst 2nd prizemoney for the 1200M sprint is $5.7K!! Perhaps both sprint fields will still hold up.

I think it is a shame today meeting was abandoned...could they possibly put every race from Thursday to Sunday? That would make Sunday a massive day of racing for sure...it'll be something around 15? races. They should start early morning like Ascot did one time.

In any event, this Geraldton event should surely be a great days racing now...two huge races which hopefully will ensure a great crowd for Geraldton.

westman 12th January 2006 06:33 PM

Yep, today's abandonment very disappointing :( especially for the race club, local trainers and the no doubt the anticipated large oncourse holiday crowd.

Not sure why they didn't reschedule the meeting for tomorrow  at worse the same outcome i.e. if the track didn't recover in time or the rain continued.

Still, this amount of rain is non seasonal for this time of year so I guess it's hard to expect too much contingency planning!

Looks a good chance at Ascot wouldn't blame them for missing Geraldton altogether ;)

westman 13th January 2006 04:37 PM

Professional Lady

Professional Lady, Ascot 3, must be a good chance of staying home as well. Perhaps more suited the 1800M Sat than the 2100M (Geraldton Cup) Sun.

westman 13th January 2006 04:40 PM

On the subject of the Geraldton Cup I see last years winner Elvis Rules is an acceptor. Caused a boilover last year and hasn't won a race since!! No doubt generous odds again Sunday!

iggy25 13th January 2006 05:12 PM

Unfortunately I still have vivid memories of last years cup! :( Was on Collins Street got 12/1 great ride by the lovely Alana thought I was home and hosed then along came THAT horse to just blouse us out !!

iggy25 13th January 2006 05:19 PM

Will be on Collins Street again this year (along with the lovely Alana). If we get beat I hope like crazy it's not THAT horse again!!
