i think you are all being to hard on starcraft..he had no room at all couldnt even get started he's a big horse that got the worst barrier he could get...he did well to finish 3rd..
Savabeel had the best run ....FOO wasnt in the form he was last year . |

Dead on jimmy_c, Elvstroem was never given a chance to be in the finish. Jumped a little awkwardly and was settled close to the rear, you don't want to be at the rear on the home turn in a Cox Plate - what were they thinking? |
Savabeel's win as a 3yr old just showed what a weak field the Cox Plate had and the hype about Starcraft is just that, hype. I doubt the horse will ever win in the Melb. way of going and seems a very over rated horse. Can't believe the bookie's didn't jump all over the owner's $1 mil. bet for the 5/1 he wanted. Backed Savabeel to win [and in the comp] but left the rest of the races at the Valley alone. It's a bit of a dog track and I think you have got to look for track specialists and keep away from back markers to win at the Valley. Bomber Bill's easy as you please win as a 9yr. old was a pointer to how weak these so called 'Group' spring races are becoming. Some of these runners are coming from night meetings and even a couple of first time city starters. |

He already has Crash. He did that at his first run in Melbourne. |
Hi Sportz. Thanks for the correction, but I was thinking about the big races here and his failure in the Yallumba getting a long way back suggested a loser in the Cox. A horse has to race on the pace in this race. Starcraft's NZ group wins [and failures there to] aren't anything to brag about and nor is 9 wins from 17 starts. NZ group races [most group 1 races there have prize pools of less than $175,000] hardly match up to Group races here, although I think our group standard is on a downward spiral. |

Congratulations go to Even Steven who selected the tri ($762.60). Well done! |
Starcraft just showed yesterday he is not even close to a 2000m horse and quite honestly after seeing the race again Paolini was the only horse I could make an excuse for wide almost all the way and I think he stuck on fairly well.
Jus heard that they are now planning to spell Starcraft and he will not run past a mile again he will be hard to beat at that range regardless what he did yesterday he is still a good horse at the sprint range. |
