If there is still a deadlock after that, then points will be awarded to each of the selections during the day on a 3,2,1 basis, and the tipster with the most points wins.

Panther, Sportz, feather and Raw Instinct can include 6 tips, (their feature race tip plus FIVE others), whereas the other 4 tipsters have the usual number of 5 tips (feature race plus four others). And make sure to include reserve selections as well, just in case.

The 'Hot Pot' will probably have the same problems as Miss Finland ....a 3 yr. old taking on the street fighters in a tough G1 [freak out time].

A great horse but next year I think.
Anyway, now the bookies are loaded up with everyone's cash after the Cox and C/Cup surprises, its skinny odds [only] for any fav. from the bookies now [they are holding onto their massive profits] and there is at least 4 or 5 runners in the Derby with a chance so win or lose, at the ridiculous odds on offer Efficient would be the worst bet in Australia tomorrow.

3yr. olds and G1's are a bit like rum and tomato sauce ...a shocker of a combination!

Good advice - don't anyone go backing a 3yo in the Derby.

I think Filante just missed my point. Maybe I could have made it clearer.......For ALL 3yr. olds in a G1 [rum and tomato sauce], it's freak-out time. That's why I give chances to about 5 horses and anything at short odds is a bad bet.

Miss Finland was the ONLY 3yr. old in the Cox Plate and was taking on some serious [seasoned] street fighters.

OK. But that's just wrong. 3yos have a very good record in the Cox Plate - Savabeel and Octagonal won it and Viscount placed just in the last 10 years. Consider that not many 3yos run in the race and those that do are not always the best of their year.

Miss Finland's problem was not that she "freaked-out". She simply got knowcked down 6-8 times and never got clear golloping room. With a clear run she may have won. As it was, she finished on the heels of the placegetters.

crash 4th November 2006 06:33 AM

With MISS Finland we are [obviously] talking fillies and no 3yr old filly in 30 yrs has won the Cox plate. She copped a hiding in the Cox by the boys [knocked pillar to post].

IMO she was ridden poorly,,,she had the chance to get on the outside of runners but chose the inside option in traffic....have to admit Miss Finland with clear running would have gone fairly close..

Sven

Sven that was the thinking behind my query re what happens in the event of a draw--As home team I thought about waiting for my opponent to tip, then I would copy and add 1 more for the e/w and be assured of going through to the next round--probably 'legal' but not within the 'spirit of the game'.

Maybe to stop it from happening, we could have an 'agreement' that the 2nd person to post can have no more than 2 of the 1st person's selections (or some figure similar).

I wont be copying anyones tips if I can't beat them using my own tips then I shouldn't be there I feel it would be ordinary of anyone to do that anyway.

While I haven't actually made a rule about that, no you can't do it. More importantly, I would hope that nobody would even think of doing it.

So, before we go any further in the comp, I'll just say that there is nothing wrong with having 1 or 2 picks the same as your opponent, but any more than that is definitely not on.

In future comps Sportz ..maybe the 2nd poster cant have any of the 1st posters tips,,,(except the feature of course)
This way the 1st poster is rewarded for posting first...as its not hard for the 2nd poster to form a strategy around what the selections the 1st poster has selected..

lol as i type this i missed the SAAB ...because i was on Sky channel ...
what the ?? ...oh well i was going to be on Vanquished anyway.....maybe my best no bet of the day...

I'll say one thing this Flemington track is a friggin joke today any wider than about 4 off the fence and they have no chance at all.

Yeah, pretty good idea there. For the rest of this comp we'll just make it a maximum of 2 tips the same.

Personally, I usually tip late and I try to make sure I don't have the same tips. Except for the feature race. Sometimes you can't help but have the same horse there.

Sportz 4th November 2006 01:15 PM

Well done with Lyrical Bid, Raw!!!

maverick1993 4th November 2006 01:17 PM

ouch....wow i'm in trouble now.....well done Raw .

Sportz 4th November 2006 01:19 PM

Who knows, Mav? Perhaps your old favourite can repay your faith and rescue you in the last. :D

maverick1993 4th November 2006 01:21 PM

lol...poor old Merlot Now..... miracles can happen :)

Raw Instinct 4th November 2006 01:39 PM

Thanks guys

maverick1993 4th November 2006 02:36 PM

Hey Sportz...seeing as there's no need for bonus points now...maybe that should be worth like $200 ?? ;)

Raw Instinct 4th November 2006 04:14 PM

Well Mav it all comes down to this

maverick1993 4th November 2006 04:24 PM

No fairytale for me ...well done Raw :) i'll get you next time..

Sportz 4th November 2006 04:26 PM

Results so far:

Panther 140 v umrum 0 (umrum has one more tip - Perth 6-6 ew)
Sportz 124 def Svenvlad 0
Feather 152 def Breadman 140
Raw Instinct 210 def Maverick1993 48

Bad luck, to Breadman and Mav. Unfortunately, that's it for you guys now.

Feather and Raw Instinct now progress to Cup day, as do the losers of the first two matches. (the first 2 winners progress straight to Oaks day)

On Tuesday, Raw Instinct will be up against Svenvlad and Feather will be up against the loser of Panther v umrum.

Sportz 4th November 2006 06:12 PM

Umrum's last bet was a placing, but that wasn't enough for him to beat Panther. (final score 140-43)

So that means on Tuesday, we'll have:

Semi Finals

Svenvlad v Raw Instinct
(winner to play Panther on Thursday)

Umrum v Feather
(winner to play Sportz on Thursday)

Again, the home tipster will have an extra tip.

breadman 5th November 2006 02:22 PM

Thanx

Thanx sportz for a great comp. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be keeping an eye on the rest of the finals. Goodluck to everyone who is left. Hoping Feather can come through at least then i can say i was beaten in a quarter final by the winner:D Cheers Breadman
