So the goal post may be changed yet again, but this time I got over the line before they changed. Point is, no matter what the change is this time round, the project I hope can adapt without too much hassle with the upgrade from XP to whatever.

Puntz, XP is no longer supported, so currently has vulnerability issues.
Vista was a disaster, just like Windows 2000, I'd suggest an upgrade to Windows 7 and you can run Explorer version 11.
However, you get a free upgrade to Windows 10 if you have certain versions of Windows 7 (I run Windows 7 Ultimate).
But beware if you opt for the free upgrade to Windows 10 is downloaded like a service pack and may cause unrecognised hardware and software issues.
It won't recognise half my hardware, mind you I'm on an old HP server, but Windows 7 recognises everything and I've never had an issue with it.

Go here http://www.microsoft.com/en-GB/soft...aCreation Tool to create an ISO or USB drive with Win 10, This way you can upgrade at your leisure and have a back up disk to boot. (pun) there is a tool for Win 8.1 too. You have to have an eligible OS to upgrade from as CP indicated. If not happy win 10 it will roll back easily to the old system but only within one month of upgrade. After that it will delete the "Windows.old" file, lot easier to roll back than it was before.
