Thanks for the feedback all, I've decided to take Chromes' advice and sign up with aanet, question: how do I know/find out if my Modem is suitable for adsl2?

all it's got on there is speedtouch and I've had that one for about 2 years?

Speedtouch I think is Siemens but not sure, could be Thompson.

Is there anything on a silver sticker on the base?

You can find a program to upgrade the firmware to ADSL2 on most modems without having to fork out for a new one.

But do it with caution and remember that all user settings will be wiped out.

Just did a search for your modem

The Thompson [sic] ST 536v6 is an ADSL2+ compatible modem. The following are the settings needed for the modem configuration:

- username: [removed for privacy matters]
- password: your TPG password (your password is case sensitive)
- vpi: 8
- vci: 35
- encapsulation: PPPoE
- multiplexing: LLC

Thanks Crackone, although that's gobblygook to me I guess aanet will be able to help out ey? good to know it's compatible anyway.

Looks like you modem is ready to go without tinkering, just ask aanet to help you set it up step by step.

Make sure you have filters on all live phone points in the house, the most common mistake I see, is people put a filter on the line to the modem, but don't put it on other phone points.
