Tried to find something to beat (10) Hardrada , but couldn't even without the massive weight pull i wouldn't be able to find anything to beat it.

(1) Corporate Bruce , great run in the Railway third run back from a let up , should be as fit as can be for this and weight should not be a worry.

(2) Finito , geared up for this with a good run in the Railway , loves this distance/track (7-4-2-0) and should be running home from the tail with the bad gate 15.

Chuck in (9) Suspicion for value in multiples , is jumping from 1200m - 1800m but going by run in Railway shouldn't worry her , setting a frenetic pace up front she was 3rd most of the way and only wilted to finish 7th beaten 2.3L.

Can’t go past Hardrada, has improved leaps & bounds on his unplaced runs in Melbourne earlier this year. Will make him the anchor in my tri / 1st 4.

The 3YOs do look extremely well weighted and can’t see an Old Comrade amongst the non-3Y0s, so think the dangers if any will come from the other 3YOs.

Will go with boys – The Right Money & Zoometric, as the main dangers to Hardrada.

Chuck in the 3YO filly Superior Star for 4th at good odds.

I see Cosmo was the only one who included Blevvo in their selections - well done my boyo, hope you had something on it, and I’m sure Santa does as well.

Thanks to Cosmo, we selected the tri.

I'm talking through my pocket when I say what a farcical run race, played right in the hand of the leader (Blevvo). For a Group 1, some of those jockeys treated it like a maiden. Even when Blevvo was challenged midrace (Main Stage) I think, that lasted around 20m & then the pace slacked right off again.

It was amazing to see the majority of the field just getting warmed up over last 30m or so. On a fast track, they ran 1m52.18, last 600m in 35.57! In a graduation same distance at Ascot yesterday, they ran 1m50.71.

In last years Fruit 'N' Veg they ran 1m50.09, last 600m in 34.68!

Anyway, good luck to the connections & especially P (Pat?) Farrell - got away with highway robbery, and absolutely stole it, well done to ya!

Perth Placegetter, as a matter of interest was Blevvo in your top 8?

Sandgroper 9th December 2002 01:34 PM

Hi Paddy. Yes, Blevvo did make my top 8, managed 6 out of first 8.

Blevvo has been going through a real purple patch. He has improved (by the maximum normal improvement rate) every win this campaign. This is unusual, especially for a 5YO. Also shows a little of the Northerly trait - can race on or near the lead, then has a kick & then puts in that extra extra effort when he sees the opposition coming.

The muddling early pace was disappointing but not surprising. Not really much in the field to take Blevvo on. Thought Aussie Strike main contender, but didn’t get a start. Of the rest thought Tribula & Suspicion were possibilities, but both being suspect at the distance, expected that may have been ridden back in the field. Was surprised however, given the very slow early pace, that one of the 3YOs did not surge to the lead and make the others carry their weight.

Had to laugh when Miller moved up with Main Stage for a short tussle.
Poor old Main Stage must have been wondering what was going on, and who had moved the winning post.

For the future, best run in the race was that of Tumeric. Ran way above his best, and if not a “one-off” performance, worth following in the short term at least.

Also don’t write those 3YOs off either. Their weight advantage was not realised the way the race was run.

Can anyone provide a logical explanation for Blevvo paying 10 times the dividend of Hardrada?

Are punters in Perth not in touch with the older horses?

Oh well, glad it was.

Funny that lew. Was virtually the same situation on all Aussie totes, must be contagious, and not restricted to just sandgropers only.

PS, thanks for your further input Perth Placegetter but how about some stronger hints next time!

i just had a shot across the bows regarding the value topic as i mentioned blevvo and double jewel being unusually good value.
i have mentioned before that i use the system of most recent winner or placed in a listed or group race.
in the case of double jewel he placed in a listed race on 24/11/01 country born placed 30/5/98 magic dash 9/12/00 so most recent placed in a listed race was double jewel and it had won its last start and was showing $18 on the tote was good value in anyones language.
as was blevvo who won two in a row in listed class. sorry i mentioned it.
